“Street-Fighting Mathematics” is NOT your normal math textbook #makereducation March 25, 2014 AT 11:30 am Street-Fighting Mathematics: The art of educated guessing and opportunistic problem solving by Sanjoy Mahajan grew out of the author’s course at MIT. Mahajan encourages a hands-on, messy, creative approach to using mathematics to address real world situations. The book focuses less on complex problems with neat solutions and more on developing the right tools to make educated guesses and assessments. The full text is available to the public here. In problem solving, as in street fighting, rules are for fools: do whatever works—don’t just stand there! Read more. Each Tuesday is EducationTuesday here at Adafruit! Related No comments yet. Free Accommodation There can be no question that one of the things all of these hospitality exchange sites have in common is free accommodation. Not everyone will use these sites for the purpose of free accommodation but the majority of people surfing do, at least to varying extents. The “CouchSurfing Spirit” and Super-Hippies BeWelcome

How to Build a Memory Palace (with Sample <img alt="Image titled Build a Memory Palace Step 1" src=" width="728" height="546" class="whcdn">1Edit step1Decide on a blueprint for your palace. While a memory palace can be a purely imagined place, it is easier to base it upon a place that exists in the real world and that you are familiar with or you can use some places of your favorite video game. A basic palace could be your bedroom, for example. Larger memory palaces can be based on your house, a cathedral, a walk to the corner store, or your town. The larger or more detailed the real place, the more information you can store in the corresponding mental space.

Ephemeralization Ephemeralization, a term coined by R. Buckminster Fuller, is the ability of technological advancement to do "more and more with less and less until eventually you can do everything with nothing".[1] Fuller's vision was that ephemeralization will result in ever-increasing standards of living for an ever-growing population despite finite resources. The concept has been embraced by those who argue against Malthusian philosophy.[1] Fuller uses Henry Ford's assembly line as an example of how ephemeralization can continuously lead to better products at lower cost with no upper bound on productivity. Fuller saw ephemeralization as an inevitable trend in human development. The progression was from "compression" to "tension" to "visual" to "abstract electrical" (i.e., nonsensorial radiation, such as radio waves, x rays, etc.).[1] Length measurement technologies in human development, for example, started with a compressive measure, such as a ruler. Learn How To Play The Hang Drum / HandPan In many ways the Hang, and HandPan are generally thought of as being quite intuitive instruments. And at least part of their popularity stems from the fact that even those with no musical experience, or training, can pick one up, and start making some pretty nice sounds, with little to no guidance whatsoever. And in my own personal experience, this tends to become true, just as soon as the novice player has mastered ‘the touch’ – a strike that is often described as being like ‘checking a stove to see if it is hot’, i.e. fast, and gentle. However, with this said, my own playing has improved massively, from watching and paying closer than usual attention to others playing HandPan on YouTube and the like, and especially, from watching videos specifically intended to tutor in HandPan playing technique. There are now a growing number of HandPan tutorial videos to be found online. Alternatively, and/or should you have exhausted the free resources mentioned within the above linked to post.

Most Successful College Dropouts 100 Amazing Books to Read in a Lifetime Hi Cora- Yikes! I am sorry you are so upset. I don’t think I was disrespectful or had guns blazing or attacking you. I hope you aren’t suggesting I am closed minded and ignorant? I read your comment as suggesting the list was composed to sell movies by Amazon. This is what I read from your original comment: “I’m with Sari….most to promote books to movies. So I must have misunderstood what you were saying and I guess I am confused considering the authors you mentioned also have movies out? And then when you made this remark: “There are better lists than this. I thought this was a great list- not perfect but we all know that would be impossible. I don’t think having a popular movie takes anything away from the books and it doesn’t mean they aren’t worth reading or that the entire list is not good.

7 Things Self-actualized People Don’t Do “What a man can be, he must be. This need we call Self-actualization.” “Human beings are not born once and for all on the day their mothers give birth to them. Life obliges them over and over again to give birth to themselves.” –Gabriel García Márquez The term “self-actualization” was originally coined by the theorist Kurt Goldstein for the motive of realizing one’s full potential, but was brought fully to light by Abram Maslow in his hierarchy of needs theory of human development. It is the self-realization of one’s individuated maturity in balance with an interdependent spirit. Wayne Dyer 1) They don’t fear change “Nature will not let us stay in any one place for too long.
