How to Stop The Whining « TheMotherCompany TheMotherCompany Want Some Cheese With That Whine? — by Betsy Brown Braun How amazing is it that all kids seem to whine at some time or other? Children whine at different ages for different reasons. The preschool whiner often suffers from lousy local conditions. Whining fulfills two basic emotional needs that all children have: the need for attention and the need for power. A child’s whining is a clear message that he needs something. To stop the whining, a preemptive approach is always a good idea, especially when it comes to guarding against lousy local conditions. · Whining can never work. · Tell your child the words and tone that will work. · Do not mimic your child. · Do let your child hear what he sounds like by setting up a video or recorder in the kitchen, unbeknownst to him. · Let your child know that he will not get what he wants if he whines for it. · Keep in mind that your child is asking for help. · Praise and acknowledge of his use of an acceptable voice. mammerri For the Children: Our Top 5 Outdoor Musical Activities with Children "Life is like music; it must be composed by ear, feeling, and instinct, not by rule." -- Samuel ButlerWhat do you get when you combine music, children, and the great outdoors? An amazing experience to behold through sight, sound, and touch. Music draws us together, lifts our spirits, allows us to express ourselves, and is just out and out FUN. In this post I'll share 5 of our favorite outdoor musical activities. 1. A Wooden Xylophone with Mallets This idea came about one day when I was looking around on Pinterest and one of my friends had posted an image with which I fell in love. The original instructions called for 2 x 4 boards, but he knew we'd be putting the instrument away each day, so he made it with 2 x 3 boards to make it lighter in weight. Not only were the children amazed with the sounds, but it brought up some amazing open-ended questions. 2. 3. Last year I began taking my iPod outside with the iHome and cranking up the music to give the children another musical opportunity.

Incredible Art Department | Art Education Sacred Mundane: The Blog - Kari PattersonKari Patterson I’m honored today to introduce you to Christine Hoover, a dear sister-in-Christ and fellow church-planting wife. I’ve been so encouraged by Christine’s words over the past few years. I also appreciate this specific article highlighting the freedom that comes with the true gospel of Grace. Christine lives, eats, breathes, and practices GRACE. I pray her words encourage you today. A well-meaning person in our church once openly questioned why my husband and I would choose to put our children in school rather than homeschooling them. This question came at a time when we were the only non-homeschooling family in our small group, and I had been privately wrestling with our choices as compared to theirs. Admitting that we desire validation from others is difficult, but recognizing it in ourselves is even more difficult because it is a subtle, ever-lurking temptation. But when we attach things like our education choices to the gospel? Because don’t we do this?
