Erick's Models Paper Filigree Snowflake Gallery I've switched over to using acid free paper and glue to make my paper filigree snowflake ornaments now. I figure there's no sense in putting this much work into something that might fall apart in a few years, and with practice, they're starting to get pretty enough that I'm planning to make quite a few of them. In my search for paper that will hold up over time, I was looking for archival quality paper, but there wasn't much available that wasn't too thick, or too yellow. I visited all sorts of art, craft, scrapbook, and office supply stores in my paper quest, but the pickings were pretty slim for archival paper in shades of silver and white, so I went with mostly acid free paper and will see how it holds up. The pictures don't show it very clearly, but the snowflake above on the right has both white and off white, and it adds an interesting antique look, or at least I thought so until my kids mentioned the old joke about not eating the yellow snow.

Several years ago I made these painted Ghost Luminaries which are posted on FamilyCorner, these decoupaged Pumpkin Luminaries and this Candy Corn luminary which are both posted on Disney’s Kaboose. Today I made some colorful luminaries inspired by the ones I saw on this cute blog called Not So Idle Hands. While Emily uses the decoupage method with strips of tissue paper, I opted for what I believe to be an easier, faster and less expensive method… paint. Aside from the new luminaries I made (which I describe below), I also spruced up my others after unpacking my Halloween boxes. To spruce up the Pumpkin Luminaries, which are decoupaged orange material, I used a damp rag to wipe them down, then I painted the yellow facial features black. You can see that the white ghost luminaries have been around for quite a few years. Over the summer I bought a couple of boxes of canning jars with the intention of canning. A: The outside. :)

Especially when that nasty gremlins try to creep in and stump me. I remembered this origami star video on You Tube and had to get them involved in my plan. I thought it would be fun to make a whole bunch with kind words and “you are….” phrases inside. I made 60 of them, enough to last me the whole year if I open one a week, plus a few extra just in case. How to marbleize paper To make this fun and easy marbleized paper you will need: 1/2 tsp alum (helps paint adhere to the paper), 2 cups liquid starch, liquid acrylic paints, a long wooden skewer , a 9 X 13 pan and white copy paper cut to fit the inside your pan. You can change up the size of the pan, just keep the proportions of starch and alum the same. The starch should be 1 to 2 inches deep in your pan. Pour 2 cups of liquid starch in the pan then add 1/2 tsp alum stirring until mixed. Gently drop acrylic paint on the surface of the starch. Take the wooden skewer and drag the paint through the starch. Lay your piece of paper on top of the starch. Lift the paper out of the pan and allow the starch to drip off the paper Rinse the paper under running water removing any extra starch. After the paper has been rinsed, lay it out to dry. Paper Model Building Tips Basic Tools and Materials Scissors & Cutting Tools A good pair of sharp scissors is one of the most important tools you will need. Dull scissors can rip the paper, make uneven cuts, and they can be hard to control when precision cutting is key. You can also invest in scissor sharpeners. Having a few different scissors for different tasks can also be helpful. For cutting out tiny, delicate cone shapes, you might try a good pair of fingernail clippers. Knives/Blades A favored tool for cutting small details and cutting holes is a craft knife (X-acto is a popular brand). A craft knife can be your best friend, but it can't live up to its full potential without its partner, a cutting mat. Glues and Other Adhesives DO NOT USE RUBBER CEMENT! Every person has their own glue preference. Paper Paper is also up to each individual. Building General Take your time; paper models are supposed to be fun and enjoyable. Keep your hands clean. Knappeli knapp Knappar, lim och glitter, A's pysselfavoriter. Här kombinerade som julprydnad. Stora flirtkulor (varför heter det så egentligen?) överstrukna med trälim i stora lass, och så en massa knappar. Bäst att göra det i mindre områden i taget, annars är det lim överallt.
