En una ciudad fragmentada -entre invasiones y barriadas-, se hace urgente generar lazos entre el estado, el sector privado y la sociedad civil, para reconstruir el escaso espacio público existente y llevar la arquitectura a aquellas zonas que lo requieran. Este es el desafío del Programa Barrio Mío de la Municipalidad de Lima, asesorando técnicamente a los vecinos organizados en zonas de laderas, para generar proyectos de recuperación y mejora de espacios públicos dentro de un sistema urbano integral. De estas, el 57% (29,8 millones, algo menor que toda la población de Venezuela o Perú) trabaja en el sector informal. A no engañarse: el sector informal tiene sus protocolos y sus propias leyes; que no estén escritas es otro cuento. Cada vez que aparezca un autodenominado presidente del empleo recuerde esta cifra: 57%. En la Ciudad de México los porcentajes son ligeramente inferiores a los del resto del país: “tan solo” el 48,3% de la PEA se encuentra en situación de informalidad laboral. A no engañarse: el sector informal tiene sus protocolos y sus propias leyes; que no estén escritas es otro cuento. El comercio callejero es parte de las ciudades de México, y lo será por un buen tiempo.

The Power of 10 The Power of 10+ is a concept PPS developed to evaluate and facilitate Placemaking at multiple city scales. It is a powerful tool for generating constructive conversations to identify targeted Placemaking efforts. Cities succeed or fail at the human scale – the place scale – and this scale is often overlooked. The Power of 10+ shows how paying attention to the human experience when building a city’s destinations and districts can have immediate and widespread impacts. The idea behind this concept is that places thrive when users have a range of reasons (10+) to be there. Further, when cities contain at least 10 of these destinations or districts, their public perception begins to shift amongst both locals and tourists, and urban centers can become better equipped for generating resilience and innovation. La città di Paolo Soleri Ieri, martedì 9 aprile, è morto a 93 anni l’architetto italiano Paolo Soleri. Soleri è famoso per aver inventato il concetto di “arcologia”, un’armonizzazione tra architettura ed ecologia che – sosteneva – dev’essere perseguita nella progettazione e nella costruzione delle città. Nato a Torino, laureato al Politecnico, Soleri fu allievo negli Stati Uniti del grande architetto americano Frank Lloyd Wright, progettò la nuova sede della fabbrica di ceramica della famiglia Solimene a Vietri e lavorò molto con la ceramica e l’argilla, che userà nelle strutture delle sue opere e per realizzare le sue famose campanelle scacciaguai. Soleri sosteneva che «L’arcologia riconosce la necessità di una radicale riorganizzazione del vasto e scomposto paesaggio urbano in città dense, integrate, tridimensionali per sostenere le complesse attività che stanno alla base della cultura umana. «Non era una comunità per il gusto della comunità in sé, dove si mangiava tofu e ci si dava pacche sulle spalle.

Mueck is one of those artists, and is now well known for his super realistic sculptures where he portrays humans at key stages in the life cycle, from birth through middle age, to death. Ron Mueck, now working in the United Kingdom, was born in 1958 in Melbourne, Australia. The son of German-born toy-makers, he grew up making creatures, puppets and costumes in his spare time, experimenting with materials and techniques. He started his career as a model maker and puppeteer for children’s films (such as Labyrinth, The Storyteller and etc.).
