Palette Challenge – Spring & Summer 2012   It’s that time of year again! I’m so happy that you guys are so enthusiastic about the new patterns. This year, I’ve decided to time the Palette Challenge to coincide with the new pattern release, as many of you have requested in the past. This will make it more of a Spring AND Summer wardrobe challenge. How does that sound? Let me back up. After asking for opinions on our facebook page), I decided to start the challenge a little later this year and make it a combined Spring/Summer challenge. If you join up with us, this next week will be dedicated to creating our palettes for the Spring and Summer. Go through your fabric stash and create a palette from fabrics you already own. Once you’ve got yours, feel free to post in the forum or on your own blog! Anyone have any ideas already?

Linen Stacking Pillows I was recently at a wedding that was held in a beautiful old town house. It was one of those perfect weddings: the couple was gorgeous, the food was great, and despite threatening skies, not a drop of rain fell. On top of that, the space was wonderfully homey and comfortable, right down to the tiniest details, from feathery potted ferns to graceful tapered candles. My version of these pillows is inspired by rustic yet elegant Japanese interior design. To make my pillows extra special I used Globalweave Tight Weave Linen. Materials To make 5 stackable pillows ranging in size from 26 X 17-inches to 18 X 9-inches: Cutting and Sewing You can make these pillows in any size you want. Cut one of the cotton solids into a rectangle one inch larger than you want for your final pillow. Cut the linen to be at least 2-inches bigger than the cotton piece. These pillows are stuffed with four layers of batting each. Center the back piece onto the front piece and pin the two together. Stuffing Tufting 1. 2.

NOTHING TOO FANCY: Finally! Oui, oui oui il est enfin là! Yes, yes, yes it’s finally here – how to make your very own Paris skirt in any size! I know it has taken awhile but here it is. Now before I get started I want to apologise for the lack-lustre photos, you see it is winter here and I have a finite time period with good light to get pretty good photos and to be honest it is about an hour not really enough time to write a tutorial, sew the skirt and take photos so I decided the photos would just have to suffer a bit. Also the weather wasn’t particular kind on the day I dedicated to this project, one minute the sun was out the next minute it was pitch black, but I figure you will all forgive me because the tutorial is finally here! (Oh no comment on our lovely ironing board cover lol) Ok, lets get started! Grab a tape measure and take the waist measurement of the person the skirt is for. Divide the waist measurement by 2. Add 2cm to your A & B measurements for your seam allowance. You still with me? Ready?

Please print on A4 paper and check that your printer is on 100% scale (not scale to fit) Before you cut your fabric, please read these two tutorials:Customising the sleeves. Why I love wearing it: It's a simple and modern dress, but with a bit of vintage about the silhouette. It's an all-in-one outfit. That's why I love it, but why not see for yourself? Starting Monday, I'll walk you through how to tailor the sleeves to your own fit and how to change the location of the skirt band (version 2) and hem band. I've also tried to make the .PDF experience as painless as possible! I really hope you enjoy making this and would love to see your versions if you do. Until Monday, have fun and happy stitching! Elise

DIY: thrift dress to origami peplum dress I was a part of the Refashionista series with I am momma, hear me roar blog(check it out here), and this is the project I submitted. I went to the thrift store twice and went to a bunch of stores, hoping to find something I can refashion but had no luck! Discouraged, I went through my "I need to work on this...some day" file, and decided to go along with this dress I picked up this past Spring. I purchased this dress at a thrift store for $4. *not pictured, but cut the bottom length of the dress as well and hem the bottom. and you're done! dress: thrift(DIY'ed) | colorblock t-strap heels: oasap Estimated time: 2.5 hours Budget: $4 Skill level: intermediate to advanced I did another thrift dress to a peplum dress here.
