Recycled Jewelry: Inspiration

Recycled Jewelry: Inspiration
by LiveOAK Staff on November 10, 2008 Brazilian designer, Mana Bernades works with teenagers and students in Brazil teaching jewelry making and creative re-use. She sees luxury in seemingly unusable materials using mini-flasks, PET bottles, phone cards, toothpicks, hair clips, plastic netting, pearls & silver to create unique, modern jewelry crafted by hand. By using recycled materials, the Mana collection demonstrates that re-use can be beautiful and this is done through collaborative education engaging young people to create beauty through eco-friendly design. Recycled Christmas Tree, how to make recycled Christmas ornaments All the decorations on our tree are made from things you would usually throw away. For example, the garland is made from plastic packing "peanuts" strung together on thread. We've cut out the pictures from old greeting cards, punched a small hole in the top, and added a ribbon. Use your imagination and see what ornaments you can make from things you would normally throw away. Free eBooks at Planet eBook - 80+ Classic Novels and Literature Maker Mama Craft Blog: Thrifted Clock Redo One of the things I always see at thrift stores are random pot lids in cute colors without a pot to go with them. I came up with the idea of turning one into a clock while shopping at my local Goodwill the other day, with the thought that I'd purchase a clock kit at the craft store. But for the sake of keeping it as green as possible (and making one less shopping trip) I decided to give an old clock new life, and voilà, the thrifted clock redo was born! What makes this project even better is that supplies--and time--are minimal. Every clock is a little different, so inspect the mechanism on the back carefully to see if it looks detachable. Now just find a wall to hang your clock and listen to it's sweet little ticking. Disclosure: I received a gift card from Goodwill SA to purchase the thrifted items in the post.
