Somerset Lane: Winter Cold Miracle Tea - It Works! DISCLAIMER: I am not a trained medical professional, but this has helped us. If you or child has fever or other on-going symptoms please seek medical advice. Thanks for all the lovely comments on my post yesterday. If you are a fan of Somerset Lane on Facebook, then you will know that just before the New Year, I came down with a nasty sinus cold. To make this you need 3 ingredients: honey, lemon and ginger! To give you an idea of sizes, I made sure to take pic... I picked up a piece of ginger that is roughly the same size as my lemon. I then thinly slice the lemon and ginger and put in a mason jar (any glass container will do). I then pour about a 1 cup of honey over the lemon and ginger slices and let it sit overnight before I make my first cup of tea. This tea will keep in the fridge for about 2 weeks. To make the tea.... Boil water. While water is boiling, mix the lemon, ginger and honey in the jar. I give it to my kids and hubby, and I think it has helped us fight some nasty bugs.

Foods for Workouts: Cardio An all-around healthy diet is best for any exercise routine, but cardiovascular exercise requires a balance of special nutrients. If you get cardiovascular exercise regularly (and we all should) – here’s how to fuel up. Cardio Basics Cardio exercise like walking, running and biking require energy from both carbohydrates and fat. Carbohydrates are the body’s #1 go-to source, but healthy sources of fat also give ample doses of energy. As exercise intensity changes (like due to an increase in speed or running uphill, for example), the body switches back and forth between carbs and fat to provide energy. All foods are digested and metabolized differently, so you need to think about the best times to eat foods that will support your exercise schedule. Before A Workout Pre-workout meals should focus mostly on healthy carbs, but since carbs with high amounts of fiber take longer to digest, you want to be careful not to take in too much directly before exercise.
Workout WITHOUT Weights: Dynamic Tension Revised! Why would anyone want to work out without weights? Everyone knows that using weights and machines is the fastest, most efficient way to gain size and strength. While this is true, there are many reasons why someone would want to, or even be forced to train for a while without the benefit of using weights. Someone working long hours trying to support his family may not have the time to get to a commercial gym, and may not have the extra space or money to set up a good home gym. Also, someone who has to travel quite often for business might prefer getting a good workout in his or her hotel room rather then wandering the streets of South America asking "Donde esta el gymo?" Let's face it there are times (vacations, etc.) when all of us can't easily get to a gym. What Is The Best Way To Workout Without Weights? The idea behind this course is - if for some reason you do workout without weights, what is the most efficient and result producing way to do it? The Techniques 100 Rep Sets Final Words
DIY: This Baking Soda Shampoo Saved My Hair Did you know that baking soda is an incredibly easy way to clean your hair? Yep, the rumors are true. What shocked me even more than the fact that this actually works is how much better my hair began to look when I started using baking soda compared to traditional shampoo! I’m a complete DIY gal when it comes to my beauty routine and I’m always on a mission to reduce my exposure to potentially harmful chemicals, so I was psyched that this method gave me such great results. You might be wondering: what's so bad about regular shampoos? sodium Sodium Lauryl Laureth Sulfate DEA/Diethanolamine Parabens Fragrance The word fragrance might not sound so bad, but on a label, it can mean the presence of over 4,000 separate chemical ingredients. There are lots of great natural brands of shampoo that don’t contain these ingredients, but as my short hair began to grow, it became really limp and flat due to the rainy weather here in Seattle. Ugh. That's it. Baking Soda Vinegar Rinse

8 Homemade Acne Remedies It’s been about 5 weeks since I embarked on this new journey to heal and prevent my acne. As you’ve probably read before, I’ve been dealing with acne since I was a teenager. Birth control pills helped to keep them at bay. Initially, I thought my hormones were the issue. 7 Natural Ways to Prevent and Cure Acne 1. Even if you’re not allergic to gluten (I was tested for a gluten allergy and the results came back negative) and other trigger foods like dairy, nuts or eggs, you may still get a reaction from it. Gluten can wreak havoc on the gut (causing your body to not absorb nutrients properly) and cause inflammation. And of all the natural cures, eliminating gluten made the biggest difference for me – especially with my cystic acne. 2. I am a former carb lover. Now I do eat potatoes, rice, quinoa and other gluten-free grains, but I try to limit it because I have a tendency to eat a lot of carbs. 3. These sugars just spike your blood sugar and could be a trigger for inflammation. 4. 5. 6.
Sleep Better Tonight Think the solution to your fatigue is an earlier bedtime? Getting enough sleep is important, but it’s also the quality that counts—and there’s more to it than just a comfy bed. Also complicating things: As you get older, your sleep patterns change, making it harder to fall (and stay) asleep. But that doesn’t mean you’re destined to be sleep-deprived. You can improve your slumber without tacking on hours in bed—and it’s not hard to do. Every little habit—from what you eat and drink to when you exercise and watch TV—can impact your sleep. 6:30 A.M. - Skip the snooze button. 7:30 A.M. - Exercise. 11:00 A.M. - Take a breathing break. 1-2 P.M. - Cut out caffeine. There’d be one specific way to build muscle, lose fat, and generally look like a Maxim fitness model. Life would be pretty easy wouldn’t it? That said, there are some relative constants in the fitness world that are generally accepted to be especially beneficial to everyone. I’ve had this knowledge and have been using plyo/weight combo workouts with clients for years. The importance of neck & back health in dentistry | Mouthing Off | Blog of the American Student Dental Association As students, we get the ergonomics lecture during the first year of dental school. But when it comes to beginning sim lab to do a crown prep, all that positioning tends to go right out the window. “I’ll work on my positioning once I get the actual dentistry down,” right? The culprit of that pain than can become chronic 20 or 30 years down the road is not as much the awkward positions we contort our upper halves into, but the length of time we hold them in that position. Of course, dentists are going to have neck and back aches on occasion. A study published in the British Dental Journal reported that nearly 30% of premature retirements of dentists surveyed were due to musculoskeletal disorders. The idea that “proactive” measures are much better than “reactive” is something students hear roughly 500 times over 10 different courses, and it applies here! Figure 1.
