CAAD. Beyond the GRID
This Can't be 'it' As reasonably well-informed scientists and entrepreneurs, we find ourselves in a curious position: here we are, in prosperous Switzerland, fascinated and at the same time increasingly puzzled as we listen to a powerful global rhetoric all around us: there is Immanual Wallerstein, for example, cultivating a World Systems Analysis with considerable political clout, while elsewhere Francis Fukuyama postulates The End of History and conjures up quick fixes for nation-building. In the mean time, everybody's grappling with financial and environmental crises, and massive conferences are being organised in the hope of tackling issues of global importance. Analytics' modernist promise of a better understanding through more specialisation and of higher security through greater control does not seem to be borne out. We too take a global perspective: our group holds talks in India, cooperates in China, has an outpost in Singapore, visits Mexico, Manila, Addis Abeba. CAAD.
83.01.08: Space and Body in Architecture
The following curriculum unit was written for a sixth grade class with a time span of approximately six weeks. The unit contains activities to show the students the significance of how the human body is related to architecture. Architecture is a visual art but it is also important for the students to learn how to experience it. The students I teach live in an urban environment so I will frequently refer to city architecture. It should be stressed to the students that architecture is not mere building but the entire thought process behind the design. The over-all focus of the unit therefore will be on personal space which can be identified on the exterior and interior of the homes where the students reside. The concentration is now directed at their own bedrooms and proposals for a fantasy bedroom. Architecture is a visual art in which we experience three dimensional space. The awareness of our bodies can be related to the place where we live. Also, there are warm and cool colors.

This is an article about my creative process behind Paelodictyon, a site specific installation that I developed in collaboration with Yannick Jacquet and Thomas Vaquié. Since this was our first big project integrating Cinder in production from the early stages, and because I used it to create most of the visual content, this post is going to have a big emphasis on creative coding and software development. I’ll try not to get too technical, but still, you’ve been warned, this is a geeky post! Inspiration. This is an interactive version of the Personality-Based Emotional Intelligence Test. Introduction: The term Emotional Intelligence has been given many specific definitions since it gained popularity in the 1980s, but has is generally taken as theorized aspects of intelligence that that are not general intelligence but instead specific to people, such as understanding other peoples perspectives. The idea of EI has been very popular, although a persistent problem of the field is that no one is really sure how to measure EI. The PBEMIT is a new experimental measure of EI that has the subject make prediction about the structure of peoples personalities that are evaluated against real data. Procedure: In the PBEIT you will be given a personality test item and asked to choose from a group of other personality test items, which would be positively correlated with it. Participation: You use of this assessment should be for educational or entertainment purposes only.

Element 8: visualising oxygen. The elemental gas, oxygen is the engine of life and evolution. Only living organisms can produce free atmospheric oxygen in any abundance and consequently, this gaseous element is an invisible signature of life’s fulfilment on our planet. For this series of works, I developed a novel process through which this gas becomes visible so that we might witness its abundance and vitality for the first time. Computer Game Technique As Effective As Drugs For Children With Anxiety
New research from Israel suggests that it may not be necessary to use drugs when treating highly anxious children. Instead, their anxiety can be relieved with a computer-based technique called attention bias modification (ABM) that’s already seen success in adult patients. The relatively new treatment was developed at several labs around the world, including that of professor Yair Bar-Haim of Tel Aviv University’s School of Psychological Sciences. The treatment draws people away from their tendency to dwell on potential threats, ultimately changing their thought patterns. Related articles Early intervention is critical because most adult anxiety disorders begin during childhood. Same effectiveness – more advantages An initial clinical trial in Israel showed that the ABM program was as effective as medication and cognitive therapy for children and offered several distinct advantages, as reported by Bar-Haim’s team.
