The Best Sites For Learning About The World’s Different Cultures I’ve compiled several “The Best…” lists that sites where you can learn about the geography, data, languages, and holidays of different countries around the world. Those resources are important, but I think it’s like learning the words, but not the music, of a song. So I thought I’d develop a separate list just focused on helping students learn about the cultures of different countries, and would love to hear additional suggestions. You might also be interested in The Best Travel Photographs Of The Year. Here are my choices for The Best Sites For Learning About The World’s Different Cultures (and are accessible to English Language Learners):

How to survive the worst moments of learning a language Learning a language makes an appearance on a lot of bucket lists. People picture themselves strolling through a market in a foreign land, conversing easily with locals – and you always look tanned in the daydream, too. But on the way to becoming the fluent and unaccountably sexier new you, there are a few emotional troughs you have to get through. By the time I moved to Mexico I had dragged myself to intermediate level via a Spanish GCSE and a refresher course at uni, but before the two-year stretch that would make me fluent, I wish someone had warned me about some of these challenges.

23 maps and charts on language by Dylan Matthews on April 15, 2015 "The limits of my language," the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein once posited, "mean the limits of my world." Explaining everything within the limits of the world is probably too ambitious a goal for a list like this. But here are 23 maps and charts that can hopefully illuminate small aspects of how we manage to communicate with one another. The basics

Episode 01: The Alibi There are a few pieces of evidence we haven’t been able to track down these last 15 months. Hotmail The first is Adnan’s Hotmail account. Adnan says that he went to the Woodlawn Public Library after school on Jan. 13 to check his email. That’s when Asia says they had a conversation about his breakup with Hae. So if we could only get our mitts on his Hotmail account or the metadata to his Hotmail account, then maybe we could look to see if he was, in fact, checking his email between 2:15 p.m. and, say, 2:36 p.m. when the state said he was committing a murder. The School System A child may begin schooling with grade 0 (also called reception, or grade-R) from the age of four. Grades 1 to 9 are compulsory and classified as General Education and Training (GET). Grades 11 and 12, Further Education and Training (FET), are non-compulsory; qualification at this level with a matriculation certificate is required to enter tertiary education.

Canada Country Profile Canada's remote north and extensive forests are home to wildlife, from bears, wolves, beavers, deer, mountain lions, and bighorn sheep to smaller animals like raccoons, otters, and rabbits. The country's lakes and rivers, which contain about 20 percent of all fresh water on Earth, are full of fish such as trout and salmon. Canada's prairies in the south are home to bison and pronghorn antelope.

Quick Start Guide to PhoneGap+AngularJS I’ve created a sample mobile application to help developers get started building mobile applications with PhoneGap and AngularJS quickly. The sample application includes view navigation, some standard user interface components and code to help avoid common pitfalls in mobile application development (click delays etc). Below are a few screenshots showing parts of the application. It basically includes a header and a scrollable mobile list of different PhoneGap API samples to try out.
