The Power of the Chakras

The Power of the Chakras
The following is excerpted from Spiritual Clearings: Sacred Practices to Release Negative Energy and Harmonize Your Life (North Atlantic Books 2009) Chakra Assessments The word chakra means "wheel" in Sanskrit. Chakras are the body's subtle energy vortices. They have been identified in many ancient cultures. The first chakra is located at the base of the spine. The second chakra is located in the gonads area below the navel. The third chakra is located in the solar plexus above the navel. The fourth chakra is located a little to the right of the heart area. The fifth chakra is located in the throat area. The sixth chakra is located between the eyebrows, just above the bridge of the nose. The seventh chakra is located at the top of the pineal gland and controls the upper region of the brain. All seven chakras are interdependent and develop gradually after years of yoga and meditation practices. Each chakra nourishes a specific endocrine gland, which energizes different body structures.

New Age Spirituality New Age, also referred to as the New Age movement or New Age Spirituality, is a spiritual movement whose purpose is to seek the Universal Truth, and for each human to reach its highest potential. The term 'New Age' was used as early as 1809, in an epic poem called 'Milton a Poem', written and illustrated by William Blake, while the elements of today's New Age first started appearing in the 1900s in metaphysical spiritual movements such as Theosophy, Spiritualism or New Thought. In the words of Deepak Chopra, the New Age Supersage*: "When your truth is aligned with the Truth of universal consciousness, you are living your dharma...living a blissful existence. You are "surfing the wave of Truth" - letting it propel you into the next phase of your life while it delivers the thrill of the present moment." New Age rejects religious doctrine and dogma. New Age Teachings Summing up all beliefs and teachings of New Age is close to impossible. "Truth is exact correspondence with reality."

Sacred Centers - The Chakras Portal - Pathways for Personal and The Chakra System originated within the yoga traditions of India, most specifically the Tantric period, circa 500 – 1000 AD. Therefore, yoga is an ideally designed practice to not only train your mind and body, but to access your chakras. The word yoga means yoke or union, and one can see how the chakra system represents the structural aspect of that yoke — the means through which mind and body, mortal and divine, connect. In that way yoga is the prime tool for accessing this sacred architecture of the soul. The postures listed below are grouped according to chakra. They are a guideline and by no means exhaustive. Seane Corn recently told me…”Anodea, you have had a huge influence on me personally as a student and the impact it has had on me as a teacher. :: Authentic Happiness :: Using the new Positive Psychology The Vikings | Write Your Name in Runes Write Your Name in Runes The runic alphabet, or Futhark, gets its name from its first six letters (f, u, th, a, r, k), much like the word "alphabet" derives from the first two letters of the Greek alphabet, alpha and beta. Each rune not only represents a phonetic sound but also has its own distinct meaning often connected with Norse mythology. Scholars believe that early Germanic and Scandinavian peoples used the runes originally as a means of communication and only later for magical purposes. Fehu Fehu can mean cattle, gold, or wealth in general. Uruz Uruz represents strength, speed, and good health. Thurisaz Thurisaz refers to the giants of Norse mythology. Ansuz Ansuz could refer to any deity, but it was most often associated with Odin. Raido Likely an important rune for the Vikings, Raido signified a long journey. Kenaz Kenaz represents a torch or some other source of light. Gebo Gebo was used to denote a sacrifice to the gods. Wunjo Wunjo can translate as comfort, joy, or glory. Hagalaz Nauthiz Isa

Michael Shermer » (Can’t Get No) Satisfaction (Can’t Get No) Satisfaction The new science of happiness needs some historical perspective Imagine you have a choice between earning $50,000 a year while other people make $25,000 or earning $100,000 a year while other people get $250,000. This seemingly illogical preference is just one of the puzzles that science is trying to solve about why happiness can be so elusive in today’s world. Consider a paradox outlined by the London School of Economics economist Richard Layard in Happiness (Penguin, 2005), in which he shows that we are no happier even though average incomes have more than doubled since 1950 and “we have more food, more clothes, more cars, bigger houses, more central heating, more foreign holidays, a shorter working week, nicer work and, above all, better health.” Harvard psychologist Daniel Gilbert goes deeper into our psyches in Stumbling on Happiness (Knopf, 2006), in which he claims, “The human being is the only animal that thinks about the future.” Recommended Reading…

Locus of control In personality psychology, locus of control refers to the extent to which individuals believe that they can control events that affect them. Understanding of the concept was developed by Julian B. Rotter in 1954, and has since become an aspect of personality studies. A person's "locus" (Latin for "place" or "location") is conceptualized as either internal (the person believes they can control their life) or external (meaning they believe that their decisions and life are controlled by environmental factors which they cannot influence, or by chance or fate).[1] Individuals with a high internal locus of control believe that events in their life derive primarily from their own actions: for example, when receiving test results, people with an internal locus of control would tend to praise or blame themselves and their abilities, whereas people with an external locus of control would tend to praise or blame an external factor such as the teacher or the test.[2] History[edit] Applications[edit]

Stages of the Journey To orient yourself through this description, we suggest you print a copy of the journey map and follow along with the descriptions below. Remember that the journey progresses from left to right. Each stage is a column in the central oval or eye. The four central cards (Awakening, Transference, The Chariot and The Lovers) are not discussed in detail in this brief overview. Many more details can be found on the individual card pages. About the Zodiac Just as we do not use the Tarot cards for divinations here, so we do not use the Zodiac for horoscopes or the like. Stage I of the journey begins with the Sun and the sign Gemini; it ends with The Magician and Sagittarius. One last thing. Stage I - Portal This stage is composed of the Sun card and its associated sign, Gemini. In an operational sense, the Sun card is the passageway through the veil that separates the conscious world from the unconscious worlds, the inner veil that is characteristic of most of humankind after the “Fall.”

Learned Helplessness The Misconception: If you are in a bad situation, you will do whatever you can do to escape it. The Truth: If you feel like you aren’t in control of your destiny, you will give up and accept whatever situation you are in. In 1965, a scientist named Martin Seligman started shocking dogs. He was trying to expand on the research of Pavlov – the guy who could make dogs salivate when they heard a bell ring. Seligman wanted to head in the other direction, and when he rang his bell instead of providing food he zapped them with electricity. After they were conditioned, he put these dogs in a big box with a little fence dividing it into two halves. You are just like these dogs. If, over the course of your life, you have experienced crushing defeat or pummeling abuse or loss of control, you learn over time there is no escape, and if escape is offered, you will not act – you become a nihilist who trusts futility above optimism. Brain Fitness And Memory Programs, Brain Training - CogniFit The Top 10 Psychology Studies of 2010 | Psychology Today - StumbleUpon The end of 2010 fast approaches, and I'm thrilled to have been asked by the editors of Psychology Today to write about the Top 10 psychology studies of the year. I've focused on studies that I personally feel stand out, not only as examples of great science, but even more importantly, as examples of how the science of psychology can improve our lives. Each study has a clear "take home" message, offering the reader an insight or a simple strategy they can use to reach their goals , strengthen their relationships, make better decisions, or become happier. 1) How to Break Bad Habits If you are trying to stop smoking , swearing, or chewing your nails, you have probably tried the strategy of distracting yourself - taking your mind off whatever it is you are trying not to do - to break the habit. That's because habit-behaviors happen automatically - often, without our awareness. J. 2) How to Make Everything Seem Easier J. 3) How To Manage Your Time Better M. 4) How to Be Happier J.
