Researchers Discover New Lineage of Ancient Human
DNA from a 40,000-year-old human finger bone found in a Siberian cave points to a new lineage of ancient human, researchers report today. The find—the first made with genetic, not fossil evidence—suggests that Central Asia was occupied at that time not only by Neandertals and Homo sapiens but also by a third, previously unknown hominin lineage. "This is the most exciting discovery to come from the ancient DNA field so far," says Chris Tyler-Smith, a geneticist at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in Hinxton, United Kingdom. The work complicates the human story once again, much as the discovery of the controversial H. floresiensis—a.k.a. the hobbit—has upset earlier and simpler views of early human migrations around the globe. A team led by archaeologists Michael Shunkov and Anatoli Derevianko of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Novosibirsk found the finger bone in 2008 at Denisova Cave in Russia's Altai Mountains. But who was this mystery hominin?

Who Built Great Pyramid? - Hall of Gods Egyptologists would have us believe that the Great Pyramid and its two sister pyramids were built in the early dynastic period of the Old Kingdom, about 4,600 years ago. Looking at the evidence objectively, however, their case is far from clear cut. In his book ‘The Phoenix Solution’ (1998), Alan Alsford claimed that much of the evidence for the 4th dynasty origin of the Giza Pyramids and Sphinx actually pointed to an adoption scenario, rather than construction of the monuments during that time period. Thus, according to this theory, the Egyptian pharaohs Khufu and Khafre adopted the Great Pyramid, the Second Pyramid and the Sphinx, rather than built them. In addition to renovating these structures, they and their successors built the causeways which ran between the mortuary and valley temples, and the smaller pyramids and masteba. The authenticity of the workmen's graffiti in the Great Pyramid is questionable. Article continues: Legends and Records

Deadly time vortex appears over Antarctica Sector of erupting anomalies. Disturbing news has been leaking out from the giant continent at the bottom of the world. Some scientists manning lonely outposts under the drifting and shifting aurora are nearly paralyzed with fear. Their clipped reports are being reviewed by astonished superiors back in the home countries. Russian researchers posted near the giant South Pole sub-glacial Lake Vostok have reported eerie anomalies and incidents over the past few years that sometimes seem to border on the frayed edge of creeping madness. Artificial structure found under two miles of ice During April 2001 one of the world’s great secrets was revealed: an ancient structure or apparatus that lay encased miles under the hard Antarctic ice was detected by a roving spy satellite. Despite the news blackout, reports still surfaced that a secretive excavation project had commenced on the heels of the discovery. Excavation deep into the ice…What’s down there? High technology and strange events Source

Ley-lines There are several developed theories on the purpose of ley-lines, many of which offer valid potential; something which in itself illustrates the complexity of unravelling the myriad of alignments from several millennia of activity. It is likely that ley-lines are a product of different elements from several of the following theories, being created at different times, for different purposes. The following examples are the current contenders for explaining how such a dedication to straight-lines has led mankind its present position. Spirit ways and Death roads - (Funerary paths): Although there is little direct evidence for 'religious' worship in the modern sense of the word at megalithic sites, there is certainly evidence that funerary rites were involved at several important locations (some of which may be classed a secondary use). A number of rituals and traditions have been associated with the path taken by funerary parties. Feng shui - (Earths Magnetic Field) Astronomical Alignments:

Bulletproof Skin Developed from Human Cells and Modified Spider Silk Although you may not be able to shoot webbing from your wrist, a new material could someday give you a superhuman quality like Spider Man — no radioactive spider bite needed. A Dutch artist and researchers have developed a bulletproof material made from human skin cells and modified spider silk. But, as Fox News reports, the bullet cannot being going too fast. The material wasn’t up-to-snuff for a level 1 bulletproof vest, which can stand up to a .22 caliber rifle bullet at normal speed. At a slower speed, it did stop the bullet compared to normal skin. The “skin”, created by artist Jalila Essaidi and the Forensic Genomics Consortium Netherlands,is made from human skin cells from the Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands and super-strong spider silk protein, which was derived from goats and worms genetically modified to produce the protein at Utah State University in Logan. Watch Essaidi explain the purpose of her project and the method for developing the skin:

'Britain's first pre-Roman planned town' found near Reading 18 August 2011Last updated at 04:56 By Louise Ord Assistant Producer, Digging for Britain The site was first excavated from 1890 to 1909 Archaeologists believe they have found the first pre-Roman planned town discovered in Britain. It has been unearthed beneath the Roman town of Silchester or Calleva Atrebatum near modern Reading. The Romans are often credited with bringing civilisation to Britain - including town planning. But excavations have shown evidence of an Iron Age town built on a grid and signs inhabitants had access to imported wine and olive oil. Prof Mike Fulford, an archaeologist at the University of Reading, said the people of Iron Age Silchester appear to have adopted an urbanised 'Roman' way of living, long before the Romans arrived. "It is very remarkable to find this evidence of a planned Iron Age layout before the arrival of the Romans and the development of a planned, Roman town," he said. Silchester is famous for the most complete Roman town walls in Britain.

Signs of Atlantis found in southern Spain: scientists - Health Scientists say they may have discovered the lost city of Atlantis buried deep under the marshlands of southern Spain. The legendary city is believed to have been "swallowed up by the sea," as the Greek philosopher Plato so famously put it 2,400 years ago. He wrote of a great city destroyed by floodwaters following an earthquake deep under the sea — an image that resonates at a time when Japan is struggling to recover from a devastating earthquake and tsunami off its northeast coast. A National Geographic television special that aired on Sunday details the work of American, Canadian and Spanish scientists as they attempt to prove Atlantis existed by following up on space satellite images showing unusual features in an area just north of Cadiz. The area is near the Straits of Gibraltar — widely thought to be the "Pillars of Hercules" Plato mentioned in his description of the location of Atlantis. The team is led by archaeologist Richard Freund of the University of Hartford in Connecticut.

Israel Invents Sensor to Detect Date Rape Drugs Researchers at Tel Aviv University have developed a 100-percent accurate personal sensor that detects the presence of the most common date rape drugs in beverages. The next stage is to miniaturize the system for mass production and to produce a device no larger than the head of a pin, which would make it possible for club-goers to check their drinks without their partners noticing. Prof. Fernando Patolsky and Dr. Michael Ioffe of the School of Chemistry developed the system that is based on optical signal changes. When a ray of light comes into contact with a beverage spiked with a date rape drug, a signal change occurs and the system alerts the user. According to its developers, the system identifies with 100 percent accuracy, without any false positives, the presence of harmful quantities of the most commonly used date rape drug, GHB, and of the second-most commonly used drug, ketamine. Patolsky and Ioffe were aided in their research by bartenders who mixed 15 popular cocktails for them.

Ice Cores May Yield Clues To 5,000-Year-Old Mystery COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The latest expeditions to ice caps in the high, tropical Peruvian Andes Mountains by Ohio State University scientists may shed light on a mysterious global climate change they believe occurred more than 5,000 years ago. They hope that ice cores retrieved from two tropical ice caps there, as well as ancient plants retrieved from beneath the retreating glaciers, may contain clues that could link ancient events that changed daily life in South America, Europe and Asia. Something happened 5,200 years ago that was abrupt and very large-scale, explained Lonnie Thompson, professor of geological sciences at Ohio State and researcher with the Byrd Polar Research Center. As snow falls on these ice caps and is packed tightly over time, it forms stratigraphic layers indicating annual accumulations. Researchers can estimate the age of a core by counting these layers just as biologists date forests by counting tree rings. This is a soft-bodied plant, he said.

The Israel Connection: Solar Power and Energy Independence Clean Power Published on August 12th, 2011 | by Silvio Marcacci Concentrated solar power technology in Israel's Negev Desert Energy independence and climate change are two of the biggest challenges facing the U.S. As part of energyNOW!’ Few countries face as unique a combination of energy challenges as Israel. Israel’s electricity grid is not connected to any neighboring countries, so it must expand its own energy resources. While Israel has many energy-related problems, it does have one natural resource in abundance — the sun. One hot spot of new solar power is the Arava Institute, housed on a working kibbutz in the Negev Desert. But that equation hasn’t added up to clean energy until now. The U.S. may lead Israel in renewable energy generation, but some of America’s biggest clean energy projects have deep roots in the Negev’s dry soil. This need to get the most power from a limited amount of available land spurred innovation in Israel.
