Would you like to own an Airsoft gun, but can’t afford to buy one? How about making one instead using a soda bottle? Better yet, how about making a machine gun that only requires 4 cheap and commonly available parts that’s capable of firing hundreds Airsoft BBs before a reload is required? The parts you’ll need include a plastic soda bottle, a quick release air compressor adaptor, an air compressor blowgun, and a 7mm by 6-inch brake line. The instructions make this look simple to do. Any concerns over the pressure inside the bottle are laid to rest in the comments on the YouTube video. It goes without saying you should wear protective gear while using this gun, and never point it at another individual, or pet for that matter.

How to make an HDTV Antenna I wanted to watch the IBM Jeopardy Challenge last night, but couldn't find anywhere to stream it online, and I don't have cable. So, I decided to make an antenna for my HDTV. With only about 30 minutes until the show started, I didn't have time to make one of those fancy wood and coat hanger designs you've probably seen around the internet. I had to make do with just this spool of copper wire and some cardboard. I stuck one end of the wire into the coaxial cable port on the back of my HDTV, wrapped the other end of the wire around a cardboard tube, and stuck the tube in my window. There's no special math or measurements involved in this antenna design, it's just my best guess at the minimum viable product required to pick up a signal. So, how does it work? Thanks to my new antenna, I was able to watch the game in HD on the CBC.

Plastic-eating fungus could help deal with landfill A team from Yale University has discovered a fungus deep in the South American rainforest that can live entirely on plastic - offering hope for new methods of waste disposal. Pestalotiopsis microspora, found in the jungles of Ecuador, can digest polyurethane - which often currently ends up in landfill and takes generations to decay. Burning polyurethane releases toxins as well as carbon dioxide; and, while it can be recycled, it frequently isn't. The fungus can live entirely on polyurethane. And, most intriguingly, the fungus can break down polyeurethane even without the presence of oxygen, meaning it could do its trick even at the bottom of a landfill site. The fungus was discovered on the university's annual Rainforest Expedition last year. Jonathan Russell has isolated the enzyme that the fungus uses to degrade the polyeurethane, a serine hydrolase.

Baby Bear And Wolf Play Together At Woodland Zoo Gift Shop They were unlikely friends, a grizzly bear cub and a wolf pup. But the pair shared a friendship that lasted beyond their days tumbling around the gift shop at the Woodland Zoo as youngsters. Six years after the video was shot, Lil' Bear and Tala still remain close, according to footage posted by Dennis Crossland, an employee at the former Pennsylvania zoo. The clip features some photos of the rambunctious duo all grown up and seemingly posing for the camera. The "aww"-inducing footage has already garnered more than 200,000 since it was posted on Jan. 27. Bella the dog and Tarra the elephant were another pair of unlikely friends whose tender interactions captured the hearts of workers at the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. Although the video above might make you squeal, there has been recent controversy regarding the purchase and ownership of exotic animals. The incident highlighted the importance of enforcing exotic animal laws, particularly in Ohio.

- StumbleUpon Fracture Putty can heal a broken bone in days Broken bones can mean weeks of having to wear a cast and the muscle atrophy that comes with that. More severe breaks can take months to mend, result in restricted movement, or in the worst cases the possible loss of a limb. There’s also the chance of re-fracture due to the amount of time some breaks take to heal if a patient isn’t extremely careful. Speeding up the time it takes to heal a broken bone is highly desirable, and a solution may be on the horizon. Fracture Putty has yet to be tested on humans, but it has already been proven to work in animals. The key to Fracture Putty is the use of mesenchymal stem cells that produce a protein key to bone generation. The time it takes to heal depends on the severity of the fracture, but in all cases it should speed up the process. As you’d expect, there’s many uses for such a putty in both human and animal care.
