20 Things That Mentally Strong People Don't Do
I often write about the things I believe we all should be doing, trying or experimenting with in order to maximize our success and happiness. However, it’s not always the things we do that make the biggest difference in our lives; it’s often the things we avoid doing that have the biggest effect. As human beings, we have a strong aversion to not doing; we feel that in order to produce results, there must be an initial action. However, because we are almost always doing something, piling on more and more often has a negative effect, rather than a positive one. Among the mentally strong, there are several actions that are avoided in order to produce the greatest benefit in the shortest period of time. These actions are those that the mentally strong avoid, and that we should consider adapting as our own: 1. Mentally strong individuals focus on the present moment and on the near future. 2. 3. Only the foolish believe themselves to be sufficient in all regards. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12.

3 Ways Improv Can Improve Your Career Imagine being asked to stand on stage, face hundreds of strangers, and make them laugh. Sounds like a nightmare, right? Connolly is not only a comedian, but a marketing and branding expert, career advisor and author of Funny Business, a book about using comedy lessons in your personal and professional life. While working as a marketing manager, Connolly began taking comedy classes. Connolly now teaches improv workshops to executives and says the skills he’s learned on stage have business applications that can turn anyone into a better communicator and leader. Although Connelly is a funny guy, eliciting laughs isn't the point of these workshops. You are Forced to Collaborate One of the improv exercises he believes is particularly relevant in business is the “yes, and” technique. Using the “yes, and” technique, someone makes a statement such as “I want to buy a car."

Simple Productivity | Zen Habits 40 Ways to Feel More Alive “I don’t believe people are looking for the meaning of life as much as they are looking for the experience of being alive.” ~Joseph Campbell As I write this, I am two hours away from my first weekly acting class in Los Angeles. I’ve been here for almost two years now, and though I loved Community Theater as a kid, I never so much as researched acting classes until a couple weeks back. I frequently said I wanted to do it, along with painting classes, which I’m starting next week, but I always made excuses not to start either. I was too busy. The list went on and on, but I realized the last two were the big ones for me. Also, I hesitate to give large amounts of time to hobbies I have no intention of pursuing professionally. I realized last month, however, that I want to prioritize more of the things that make me feel passionate and excited—and not just occasionally, but regularly. I don’t know if these classes are “leading” anywhere. Say Something You’ve Been Meaning to Say 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.
