Math Games - 10 Great iPhone/iPad Apps
Itching to use your iTunes gift cards on some iPhone/iPad apps? How about some fun math games to keep the kiddos entertained while they learn math at the same time? Here are ten of my favorite math games! Toddler Counting – $0.99 Toddler Counting is a simple app that lets little ones count each item. PopMath - $0.99 PopMath is a timed game, so you get to compete against yourself. KidCalc – $0.99 KidCalc has many different types of math games to play. I’ve set up KidCalc to handle only numbers from 1-3 in the addition game. SumsStacker - $1.99 Great for middle school or secondary school aged kids, Sums Stacker is one of those math games that’s not so blatant with the math. Algebra Touch – $2.99 I discovered this iPhone app at a family party. This app is great for kids learning or practicing algebra concepts – as early as middle school. MathemaChicken – $0.99 I really can’t stand this game. The first two chickens “lay” eggs – clucking each time. Daughter can’t get enough of it. MultiAlien – FREE
20 random iPad Maths Apps that help cover all areas of curriculum
Around this time last year, I wrote a post about the lack of engaging Maths apps on the iPad that went beyond “skill and drill” number activities. Since then, developers have introduced a greater range of apps across all areas of the Maths curriculum that can be used to enhance the Maths teaching and learning in your classroom. Here’s a selection of 20 apps that cover Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability ( these are the Content strands (CS) Australia’s Mathematics curriculum has been categorized under ). They also cover the proficiency strands (PS) of Understanding, Fluency, Problem Solving and Reasoning. I’m sure other countries’ curricula are similar in many regards and you will be able to make the connections. 5 Fun Free iPad Math Game Apps
These free apps offer fun ways for elementary/primary grade students to practice their math fundamentals. We checked out a bunch of free math games for the iPad that can help younger students reinforce their math basics, focusing only on those rated 4 stars or better. There are quite a few of these. As of this morning, there were 92 apps that come up by searching the App Store for “math games” that are free and have ratings of 4 or higher. My Math App Flashcards (link here): This is a great application, providing flash card style testing for multiplication, subtraction, multiplication, and division, with “Starter” and “Advanced” verisons for each function, making it useful across a wide range of grade levels. Math Puppy (link here): This app has 2 games and a calculator. Multiplying Acorns (link here): This is a cute, straightforward game in which you select two digits to multiply together, and then have to select the correct answer from several choices. It seems obvious to plan primary English work around stories and texts. Whether we use short stories, picture books, animated films, novels, oral tales or any other form of story to engage children and give them a focus for their writing, the results speak for themselves. We can use the Talk for Writing model of imitate; innovate; invent and children are guided through the writing process, supported by the wonderful world of stories.
