Courtesy the artist and Von Lintel Gallery, New York City Smoke Painting #36, colored smoke and firework residue on paper, by Rosemarie Fiore, whose work was on view in October at Von Lintel Gallery, in New York City. By Rosemarie Fiore The joy of literary destruction: Writers who broke all the rules There is a certain kind of writer who seems to feel that unless he is breaking apart everything that came before him, composing something that in his own view is astonishingly new, he is not writing great literature. Though he is sincere in his wish to be a great writer (and in that sense might seem almost naive), his preferred mode of public address is sarcasm or heavy irony, both of which are meant to suggest his sophistication, his superiority to banal questions about reality, authenticity, and truth. He has no interest in accurately representing human behavior, partly because he has no interest in accuracy and partly because he has very little interest in other people; what concerns him most is the working of his own mind. He hates with a passion the realist novelists and formalist poets who came just before him, and he is convinced that only he, among all the writers who ever lived, is producing work that will matter to the future. Writers like this have given novelty a bad name.

The Spanish Are Coming! by Adrian Tyler | Photobookstore Magazine Cristina de Middel’s Afronauts was one of the most surprising book phenomenons of last year, however there are lot more new Spanish lens based artists and bookmakers to be discovered. The recent curatorial, critical and popular interest in the photobook and it’s place as the driving force in the history of modern photography is a welcome breath of fresh air which challenges traditional elitist museum based views. However, as far a Spain is concerned there is an almost complete void in this “history” which is especially notable from the 60’s to the present day. That is no to say that there were no good photographers working in Spain at this time – Juan Colom, Ramón Masats, Cristina Garcia Rodero, Carlos Pérez Siquier and Cristobal Hara to name a few – rather that the traditionally conservative nature of Spanish society meant that there was almost no photobook market and therefore no publishing houses. Blog Intermedio | Blog de la distribuidora y editora de cine Intermedio about us When you think of photo galleries, New York City, San Francisco or Los Angeles probably first come to mind. But if you ask about where are the top leading photographic image makers using historical techniques and alternative processes within the contemporary and traditional fields of photography you’ll hear about the Tilt Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona. Tilt Gallery is owned by four photographers Michelle and Melanie Craven, Sabine Guedamour and Rachel Brace-Stille. The intimate gallery was one of the first to specialize in historic formats and alternative processes. Timing was perfect. Tilt filled a gap, and quickly became a focal point for an emerging new photographic community. One of Tilt’s signature events is the “Photography Re-Imagined” exhibitions that have been juried by internationally renowned photographers France Scully Osterman, Christopher James, Jill Enfield, and Anna Strickland.
