blog – The Foodee Project Thursday: Flipnotics & Bar Chi Matt’s dad is coming in this weekend and so we wanted to get an earlier start on our last full workday. We headed over to Flipnotics, a 2nd story coffee shop just south of Lake Austin, to put some ideas down on paper. It was sprinkling as we left, but as we settled in on the deck with our mugs, we had front row seats to a full-on downpour. We took down our first cup just watching the rain, and then settled in to work. Personally, I thought the setting was very Swiss Family Robinson, which was fun, but that the coffee was a little too bitter for my taste. After leftover ”okra gruel” we watched game 5 the SF Giants vs. Matt, Scott and I went out for a celebratory dinner at Barchi downtown. Friday: Austin City Limits Festival Today was the kickoff for Austin City Limits and we were excited to be a part of our first music festival. We scanned in with our wristbands and were welcomed in to a sea of 8 stages and roughly 70,000 people. But it didn’t.

Clean Eating Chelsey — Deconstructed Gyro Salad Jan 13, 2012 Posted by Mel on Jan 13, 2012 in Blog, Meats/Eggs, Recipes | 86 comments Deconstructed Gyro Salad One of my favorite recipes is Stovetop Pork Carnitas (updated and renamed in Well Fed as Citrus Carnitas). It requires very little effort, but makes a huge pile of meat that lasts for days and can be re-mixed with other ingredients to make lots of tasty stuff. So that got me thinking: what other meats could I cook this way? Say hello to Deconstructed Gyros. Like the carnitas, the cooking part of this recipe takes about 2-3 hours, but at the end of that waiting period, you will be rewarded with caramel-brown, lemony, crispy lamb that practically falls apart when you look at it. Gyros are usually served on pita bread with a sauce made from yogurt – both a no-no for us dino-chowers. Deconstructed Gyro Salad Prep 5 min | Cook 2-3 hours | Alert 15 minServings: 8-12 Directions: With a sharp knife, cut the lamb shoulder into 3- to 4-inch chunks. Place the lamb in a large, deep pot.

Paleo Diet Recipes | Home of delicious paleo recipes Paleo recipes by topic Red meat Poultry Pork Fish & Seafood Eggs Salads Snacks Vegetables & Sides Soups Treats/Desserts Drinks Vinaigrettes, sauces & dips Mains Before I talk about this week’s awesome recipe I just want to say the biggest thank you to everyone who has bought my app, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it! I honestly can’t believe what a success it has been, seeing it go to number one on the iTunes store overnight was literally one of the most exciting things that has ever happened to me. So thank you all, you’re amazing and I really hope that you’re enjoying it! This week I’ve had a serious aubergine (eggplant) obsession, I just can’t stop craving it. Serves 2 - 2 large aubergines (eggplants) - one 400g tin of black beans - one bag of spinach (about 200g) - a big handful of sunflower and pumpkin seeds - 1/2 a cup of brown rice - 4 tablespoons of tahini - 2 tablespoons of tamari - 2 cloves of garlic - 1 lemon Start by placing the brown rice in a saucepan with boiling water and a tablespoon of tamari and allow it to simmer for about forty minute until cooked – make sure that it never runs out of water during this time.

5-Spice Slow-Cooker Pork Ribs Feb 23, 2012 Posted by Mel on Feb 23, 2012 in Blog, Meats/Eggs, Recipes, Soups | 109 comments 5-Spice Slow-Cooker Pork Ribs As much as I enjoy playing in the kitchen, I like to balance “project recipes” (I’m looking at you, Paleo Chicken Bastila.) and dead-simple dishes that require almost no work with a big flavor payoff. This is my first in a series of Super Simple recipes that are made with minimal fuss, just a few ingredients, and produce leftovers that can be used in other dishes. I don’t know what’s gotten into me this week, but I’ve been on a serious Asian food kick. I did zero internet research and didn’t even flip through my favorite go-to cookbooks — I just opened my spice cabinet and starting experimenting. Our first meal was simply the unadorned ribs with some crudité alongside; our second was a nourishing bowl of broth spiked with lots of ginger, bok choy, and tender morsels of pork I pulled off the bones by winking at them. 5-Spice Slow-Cooker Pork Ribs Directions: 1. 2. 3. 4.

Food Archives Last night in a rush to prepare dinner, I made one of my fairly standard go to meals; but it always comes out different. I call it “Kitchen Sink Soup” because everything I can find in my kitchen typically goes into it, except the kitchen sink… Before we ate, I took a picture of my bowl (it was so pretty!!) and quickly put it up on Facebook and of course, you all wanted the recipe and of course I want to share it with you! Like I said on Facebook, this soup is more of an idea than a recipe that should be followed to the T so feel free to change it up as you and your tastebuds see fit. Oh, by the way, when I make (any) soup I make a GIANT pot so we can have leftovers for the next day.

Nerd Fitness: Helping You Lose Weight, Get Stronger, Live Better. I received an email a few months back from a NF reader that made me smile: “I am going back to square one. I noticed the only habit that I changed and stuck with was drinking tons of water. Have you ever started playing a game and get a few hours in and go “man I wish I knew these controls/tips from the beginning”? I’m restarting my journey now that I have a better idea of the controls.” This resonated with me, because when I first played EverQuest (similar to World of Warcraft), the first character I created was terrible. When I started again playing as a new character, I FLEW through the first 30 levels: I understood the controls, how the game worked, and what needed to get done; it was much easier the second time through! The same is true for any boss battle you first encounter in any game. Getting in shape is no different. Each time you start over, you’re getting closer to that point of making things stick.

Healthier Halloween Candy My new favorite go-to recipe site for Paleo friendly dishes is Elana's Pantry. Y'all - oh my goodness. Elana might get the biggest heartsies from me ever. I found about her at a wedding of some friends who did the entire thing Paleo - even the CAKE! Rough Creek Lodge catered it so you know they are on the ball, and I tracked down the chef to get him to let me in on the secret. Well, it was ALL Paleo. I hope to have time this weekend but if not, I'll report back next week. Don't you just love the rug?! Happy Halloween everyone if I don't talk to you before then!
