I've actually never seen or read of it done without it, but nothing wrong with adapting. Though I wouldn't adapt it until I've tried it the was it was intended. I suggest that if having unrelated content or content that doesn't group well on the same page is a problem, you'd be better served to recognize that you need to start a new page than to skip the summary.
