So you want to become a Happiness Ninja? Part of the reason I’m so happy is that I discovered what I’m passionate about and decided to focus on the things that inspire me. To do this I had to take a few risks and make major changes in my life. Examples of these changes include: 1. Quitting my day job and moving to a city that fit my needs. 2. 3. Since the NYT’s article “But Will it Make You Happy?” I hope the tips below will help you become a happiness ninja! 1. If you constantly run from meeting to meeting and have your evenings and weekends packed with events, it’s time to start saying no. Living a simpler lifestyle will give you the time and freedom to cultivate your interests. 2. Don’t become a zombie. One way to do this is to determine the biggest and most important problem you can solve with your skills. Finding meaning, purpose and happiness isn’t easy. 3. Get off the work-watch-spend treadmill by saying no to conspicuous consumption. You don’t have to trade your time or money for a “cool” identity, a car or a big house. 4.

"The egg" - Page 11 You were on your way home when you died. It was a car accident. Nothing particularly remarkable, but fatal nonetheless. And that’s when you met me. “What… what happened?” “You died,” I said, matter-of-factly. “There was a… a truck and it was skidding…” “Yup,” I said. “I… I died?” “Yup. You looked around. “More or less,” I said. “Are you god?” “Yup,” I replied. “My kids… my wife,” you said. “What about them?” “Will they be all right?” “That’s what I like to see,” I said. You looked at me with fascination. “Don’t worry,” I said. “Oh,” you said. “Neither,” I said. “Ah,” you said. “All religions are right in their own way,” I said. You followed along as we strode through the void. “Nowhere in particular,” I said. “So what’s the point, then?” “Not so!” I stopped walking and took you by the shoulders. “You’ve been in a human for the last 48 years, so you haven’t stretched out yet and felt the rest of your immense consciousness. “How many times have I been reincarnated, then?” “Oh lots. “Wait, what?”

The 9 Epiphanies That Shifted My Perspective Forever By David Over the years I’ve learned dozens of little tricks and insights for making life more fulfilling. They’ve added up to a significant improvement in the ease and quality of my day-to-day life. But the major breakthroughs have come from a handful of insights that completely rocked my world and redefined reality forever. The world now seems to be a completely different one than the one I lived in about ten years ago, when I started looking into the mechanics of quality of life. Maybe you’ve had some of the same insights. 1. The first time I heard somebody say that, I didn’t like the sound of it one bit. I see quite clearly now that life is nothing but passing experiences, and my thoughts are just one more category of things I experience. If you can observe your thoughts just like you can observe other objects, who’sdoing the observing? 2. Of course! 3. 4. 5. Yikes. 6. This discovery was a complete 180 from my old understanding of emotions. 7. 8. 9.

Stellar by Ignacio Torres Beautifully executed animations by Texas photographer Ignacio Torres from his series Stellar. Via his website: This project began from the theory that humans are made of cosmic matter as a result of a stars death. I created imagery that showcased this cosmic birth through the use of dust and reflective confetti to create galaxies. These are just a selection of the series, click through to see the entire project. Nobody's Son I lost my father this past year, and the word feels right because I keep looking for him. As if he were misplaced. As if he could just turn up, like a sock or a set of keys. It’s not unusual. My father’s death was not in that universe of things. Except that he was my father. I have other loves in my life that are greater. I can’t look at his picture yet. I thought of calling this piece “In Memoriam,” because “in memoriam” has always suggested a place to me—Memoriam, Oklahoma, say, or Memoriam, Tennessee—and because, to my tinker’s brain, “in memoriam,” sounds like “in memory am.” It’s an odd, slightly ghostly predicament. What am I supposed to do with this nest of thorns? With him gone, there’s no one to reminisce with, no one to corroborate my memories (or correct them), no one to identify the little girl smiling up from the curling photograph at the bottom of the shoebox. It’s interesting how unsteady a process grief is; the conveyer belt taking me away from him shudders and stalls.
