Name: The Jingle Player iPad app [iTunes link] Quick Pitch: Find pre-licensed, musical content from up-and-coming bands on-the-go with a music discovery app specifically aimed toward business-to-business clients. Genius Idea: Jingle Punks really tackles two arenas: 1) It provides filmmakers, TV networks, media companies and ad companies with an easy way to find music. Jingle Punks launched about two years ago, the brainchild of musician Jared Gutstadt and developer Dan Demole. Before last week, the service was limited to the web, where it lived as a tool called The Jingle Player. Now, the duo have brought the experience into the App Store with a portable version of the player. Furthermore, the whole service is also a boon to musicians.
Have iPhone, will travel: A tale of two trips and many apps In October, my husband and I took two big trips. One of them — a week in Berlin and Amsterdam following the Frankfurt Book Fair — was planned. The other — a 21-hour drive back to New York City when Hurricane Sandy canceled our flight home from a Florida wedding — was unplanned. Here are the apps I found most (and least) useful on these two very different journeys. The fun Europe trip The good: myTaxi (iOS/Android/Windows, free) I was amazed when our Airbnb host told us about myTaxi, which lets passengers hail a nearby cab, book it and track its approach on their phones. Tripit (iOS/Android/Blackberry/Windows/web, free for basic version) I forwarded all our travel plans and email confirmations — hotel reservations, flight details, etc. — to Tripit. Google Maps (on iOS 5) + data roaming Apple released iOS 6 a couple weeks before I left for Europe, and as the terrible reviews of Apple Maps rolled in, I chose not to upgrade so that I’d be able to keep the Google Maps iPhone app on our trip.

Blooms and iPad Applications I just got tweeted a nice diagram showing iPad applications against different levels of Bloom’s revised taxonomy. Its a good and well considered diagram and I like it. Some applications there that I haven’t seen yet and I will have to look up. The only thing I would say is that the applications are just the medium in which the student demonstrates the level. I know a number of people who have questioned whether tools like animoto should be included because it can be so easy, but the reality is yes you can “throw” music and images at Animoto and get a good product. Tools like Pages and Touch Draw can be used across the taxonomic levels depending on the task and purpose. iPad Curriculum Using Multiple iTunes Libraries on One Computer Did you know that it's possible to have multiple iTunes libraries, with completely separate content in them, on one computer? While not only a neat lesser-known feature, it also helps you: Keep separate each person's music, movies, and apps on a family computer shared by more than one family memberSync multiple iPods, iPhones, or iPads to a single computer without getting other people's music on your device unintentionally (other options for this include using playlists, using the iPod management screen, and multiple user accounts). This technique works with iTunes 9.2 and higher. Having multiple iTunes libraries is similar to having two separate computers each with iTunes on them. To use multiple iTunes libraries on your computer, you first have to create them. If you've already got multiple iTunes libraries on this computer, skip to step 3.
