Dashboard Insight - Talend Announces First Open Source Data Prof The Four Forms of Data Discovery Mar. 17, 2014 Radiant Advisors' Lindy Ryan discusses the four ways that users at BI-enabled organizations discover their data. Read InfoDesk Launches New Financial Intelligence Solutions Formstack: Easy Web Forms With Sophisticated Options I was recently asked to add a couple of forms to a client’s website. Over the years, my company has built a number of solutions for creating forms, notifying clients, and storing the collected data, but they all take some manual setup, and the client wanted the forms in a hurry. So I figured that I would try Formstack, based on Darrell’s recommendation from a few months ago. Since Darrell wrote about this product, its name has changed from Formspring to differentiate itself from Formspring.me, a social network project from the same company. But as he described, it’s very easy to set up forms, and they can be embedded in existing websites by copying the HTML code that Formstack creates.

Web 2.0: Have iPad, Will Travel Traveling with an iPad rather than a laptop has its challenges, but it can be done without giving up too much. Apple envisioned its iPad as a device that defines a new market, something between a laptop computer and a smartphone. Having sold over a million of them in just 28 days, it's clear that the company has tapped into need that other computer makers have been unable to adequately address. But there's considerable overlap between portable computers, the iPad and mobile phones. Talend Introduces First Open Source Data Profiler Talend today announced the first open source data profiler, which enables companies to assess the quality of data and decide which actions must be taken to correct "dirty data" that irritate customers and cost companies time and money. Data profiling is the first step to achieving reliable, trustworthy data. ebizQ received the following: Data quality is a major concern for companies of all sizes. Faulty or conflicting data such as missing zip codes, incomplete addresses or wrong phone numbers can lead to multiple mailings to the same customer, lost product shipments and missed sales opportunities. All waste companies’ time and money and exasperate customers.

XP Licensing & nComputing - MSFN Forums I want to set up a small and simple Internet Cafe. I have found a product that appears to fit my need in nComputing's line of products. They sell kits that allow you to use the OS and computing power of one normal PC, then plug little terminal-like devices into the "server", either directly or via a network. This way you can in effect have up to 10 workstations that provide the normal Windows experience but only the hardware costs of a single PC, plus the nComputing terminal gadgets. It also sounds like the management of this system would be easier than managing 10 individual PCs.

Tips on completing a successful IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) initiative. For every like the often-related example of Johnson & Johnson that Blue Elephant Consulting's Jim Anderson writes about on blog, there's a less successful implementation. In many cases, resistance to the structure imposed by ITIL, from business users and/or IT staff, is a big problem. (Resistance may have been an issue at J&J, though Anderson's post only emphasizes the benefits the company attributes to ITIL, including what it says are annual IT savings in the neighborhood of $30 million.) I offered some in a post earlier this year.
