Old govt PCs could be donated to the poor Socio-economically disadvantaged Australians may ultimately end up with an old government computer as part of the National Digital Economy Strategy, with Communications Minister Stephen Conroy set to put the idea to the government. At the Huawei Digital Inclusion Summit in Canberra this morning, Conroy said he was in favour of the audience's suggestion that, rather than sending thousands of decommissioned government computers offshore every year, the units should be gifted to the 25 per cent of Australians without computers and that he will take up the idea with his colleagues. "I suspect the Department of Finance will be the place to start, because they coordinate the government purchasing, but I think that's a very sensible thing to look at. If there are old computers that we are just going to basically throw away or more importantly send them offshore ... then I think that is a very worthwhile suggestion," he said. "We will give you a lifetime address, a lifetime pigeonhole," he said.

Foundation: For The Socially Excluded Building a healthier world, together The Findhorn Foundation is a world-renowned centre for life-long learning set within a community and ecovillage in the north of Scotland. The Foundation has provided experiential learning and discovery since 1974. Our site at The Park, Findhorn, provides a welcoming and supportive environment for people of all ages and backgrounds – a place to reconnect socially, feel appreciated and useful, learn health, nutrition and practical skills, and develop self-respect and a positive attitude to life. It is ideal for local charities, governmental agencies and other groups seeking to turn around the lives of disadvantaged and disengaged people of all ages. At the Foundation we use the therapeutic power of working outdoors – planting seeds, mixing compost, watering and harvesting flowers and vegetables, building and repairing sheds and shelters – to help nurture a similar process of growth and renewal in those who are or have been socially excluded. 1. 2. 3. 1.

Digital Inclusion Wales PARANUS - der Verlag der sich einmischt Technophobia Skills Development Scotland An anomaly in the European online statistics.... - telecentre-europe Heres a question for the stats analysts out there... Why is the UK lagging behind much of the rest of Europe in online government service use, when digital inclusion in general is so high? Two reports on internet use in Europe provide a very interesting picture of UK internet users were published last week. Ofcom International communications market report 2011 and the Eurostats Internet access and use in 2011 take an international perspective on the digital divide. In its report Ofcom describes UK internet users as a nation of shoppers, with nine out of ten UK internet users saying that they had ordered goods or services online, higher than any other European country. The EU report also shows that the UK compares favourably for access and use. However what no one seems to have picked up on is that UK citizens are not showing the same enthusiasm for using public services online. Table data taken from the Eurostat press release
