How to make a bamboo polytunnel We used a local renewable material, caña (like bamboo). You could use anything long and bendy – we would like to try it with hazel next time we are further north. The only items we paid for are the plastic and string (pita string made from fibres of the giant succulent Agave plant). It took six days with four people working. It's a lovely material to work with, flexible, strong and graceful. The challenge throughout is to balance and work with the natural forces of the material. low-cost bamboo housing in vietnam by H&P architects apr 08, 2013 low cost bamboo housing in vietnam by H&P architects vietnamese low cost housing by H&P architectssix member family developed by vietnamese H&P architects, the low-cost housing project is situated in a flood-stricken region that receives extreme temperatures year-round. meeting the basic residential needs of a residential dwelling, the building will be assembled using minimal components and bamboo module units. secured using anchors, ties and solid connections, the structure will be strong enough to float in floods. built with local materials such as bamboo, leaves and recycled oil containers, the concept combines traditional architectural characteristics to distinguish the exterior fabric. costing just under 2000USD per unit, the plan allows for mass-production, and the ability for villagers to build themselves. eight member family perspective

Coconut-Shaped Bamboo Dome Built Without a Single Nail Bamboo building virtuoso Vo Trong Nghia designed and constructed the gorgeous bamboo Water and Wind Cafe in the Binh Duong province of Vietnam. Not only does the domed structure the versatility and strength of bamboo, which is a rapid-growing renewable material, it was also built without the use of even one nail! We’ve seen other bamboo buildings before but what makes Nghia’s stand out is the dynamic domed shapes he is able to achieve with the material – especially without the use of modern machinery or metal structures. In fact, every bit of bamboo in the design was woven together using traditional Vietnamese weaving techniques. The cafe’s frame measures 30 feet high and features an opening at the very top of the dome that allows daylight to stream inside.

Introduction to "Bamboo Theory" When I say bamboo is “green” I mean it does not take much energy to prepare the bamboo fiber for laminating, as the 0.3 mm thick veneer air dries quickly. It can be cut into strips and woven into mats or used as a “uni-directional” fiber in laminates." After over 10 years of bamboo board making, I would estimate that each layer of rotary bamboo veneer is roughly as strong as one layer of 4 ounce unidirectional fiberglass. Two layers of bamboo veneer with grains crossed, epoxy laminated and vacuum bagged uses less resin than a hand laid-up 8 oz. fiberglass.

BAMBOO REINFORCED CONCRETE Bamboo has been used as a construction material in certain areas for centuries, but its application as reinforcement in concrete had received little attention until the Clemson study. Bamboo was given recent consideration for use as reinforcement in soil-cement pavement slabs in which the slabs behave inelastically even under light loads. For this case ultimate load analysis was shown to be more economical and suitable for use. The results of these investigations form the basis of the conclusions and recommendations presented in this report.

I also really like the contrast that the black and white twine adds to the packages. Hmm … I don’t think that I have any black and white twine. May be time to get some!
