GSSGC Blog One thing most folks think they know for sure: When you're a Girl Scout, you have to sell. It turns out that Girl Scouts participate in the Girl Scout Entrepreneurial Program; they don't just sell. Each year the girls are offered a chance to participate in a Fall Products Sale and the Cookie Program.

Redlands Daily Facts Staff at Camp Azalea Trails put their first-aid training into practice this month. Counselors Kathleen Crocker and Victoria Carroll, assistant camp director Jennifer Thomsian and camp nurse Christina Abraham worked together to stabilize a 27-year-old man who had fallen into a diabetic coma two miles from the camp in the San Jacinto Mountains near Idyllwild. The man's father had carried him for hours after he began feeling ill, Carroll said. He finally left him about two miles from the camp and sought help. "He approached the (horse) wrangling staff, which were on the outside (of the camp)," Thomsian said.

Inland SoCal hiker rescue story When camp counselors Kathleen Crocker, 21, and Victoria Carroll, 22, attended the Girl Scouts of San Gorgonio Wilderness First Aid class at the end of June, they never thought they would actually have to put those lessons into practice. But when an elderly man showed up at Camp Azalea Trails this month, seeking help for his comatose son, the girls' skills were put to the ultimate test. The man, who appeared to be in his late 50s, had been on a 12 hour hike with his 27-year-old son on the Seven Pines Trail in the San Jacinto Mountains near Idyllwild.

Art Awards "This work is a great example of why cliché's about eyes speaking or eyes being the window to the soul are so prevalent. Once you look into these eyes you can just about read the story of the woman's life. I also appreciate that the colorful compositional entourage doesn't distract from the focal point but supports it and brings a dynamic feel to the portrait." GSSGC Minds for Design During July 12 - 23, Girl Scouts of San Gorgonio Council will be offering a fun and hands on way to encourage all girls ages 11-16 to discover the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Don't Mess With Miss Kitty Don't Mess With Miss Kitty I think it is a very bad idea for parents to give weird nicknames to things. I really do. It's just way too confusing for a child and can necessitate years of therapy when they reach adulthood. My sister and I grew up in the south with an aunt who would go to extreme lengths to avoid calling certain intimate things by their correct name. If you were a lady, it just wasn't done.

GSSGC Operation Gratitude Operation Gratitude: The troops respond5/17/2010 12:58:00 PMI was recently a proud recipient of one of your wonderful packages! What an awesome organization filled with truly good-hearted people! I just wanted to take the time to send an email out to some of the people listed in the magazine that came with my package and thank you for what you do back there. I have been in the Navy for a little over 10 years now and am on my 5th deployment to the Middle East on an Aircraft Carrier. Its never easy to deploy away from family and friends but knowing that we are serving the good of our country and protecting the people back at home makes it worthwhile. Your efforts and contributions back at home bring smiles to our faces and remind us of the many people back at home supporting the things that we are doing out here.

Vampire Juno Vampire Juno When I was about eleven years old, I had my little sister convinced I was a vampire. It was during my Barnabas Collins period. I used to sneak into the den every day after school to watch Dark Shadows, the popular monster soap opera. If my aunt had ever caught me I would have been beaten within an inch of my life.
