7 Secrets of the Super Organized A few years ago, my life was a mess. So was my house, my desk, my mind. Then I learned, one by one, a few habits that got me completely organized. Am I perfect? So what’s the secret? Are these obvious principles? If your life is a mess, like mine was, I don’t recommend trying to get organized all in one shot. So here are the 7 habits: Reduce before organizing. If you take your closet full of 100 things and throw out all but the 10 things you love and use, now you don’t need a fancy closet organizer. How to reduce: take everything out of a closet or drawer or other container (including your schedule), clean it out, and only put back those items you truly love and really use on a regular basis. Write it down now, always.

Rising Early, and How to Do It | Zen Habits “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise” – Ben Franklin, famously “Put no trust in the benefits to accrue from early rising, as set forth by the infatuated Franklin …” – Mark Twain By Leo Babauta Recently, reader Rob asked me about my habit of waking at 4:30 a.m. each day, and asked me to write about the health benefits of rising early, which I thought was an excellent question. Unfortunately, there are none, that I know of. However, there are a ton of other great benefits. Now, let me first say that if you are a night owl, and that works for you, I think that’s great. Greet the day. How to Become an Early Riser Don’t make drastic changes.

How to Do Nothing Edit Article Edited by Krystle C., Jack Herrick, Whichmonkey, Wes Platt and 138 others Do you need to carve time out of your day to be still? Sometimes, you need to take a break from the daily hustle and bustle and just do nothing. However, if you're a particularly jittery or impatient person, this can be difficult. It can be helpful for you to disconnect, find a quiet place, and schedule your break ahead of time so you can take advantage of the experience as much as possible. Ad Steps 1Schedule quiet time. 8Resume your normal activities slowly. Tips Once you become good at doing nothing, you can use this new found time and energy to think of things, instead. Warnings At first you may feel nervous, sad, and restless.

How Your Dominant Beliefs Control Your Life By: Jason Demakis The following assertion is one that has been reached through much personal study, growth, experimentation, experience, and correlation with others from within the arena of emotional intelligence: We are not our thoughts. We are not our thinking. Further more, our beliefs are what fuel the nature of our daily experiences entirely, as well as open us up to or limit us from choices and opportunities which are completely neutral and available to us at all times – regardless of our personal beliefs (see how that works) about their availability. Now, this is far from a new concept; many authors, scholars, and ancient peoples understood this very basic principle. Consciousness Circuitry Simply put: we don’t actually experience anything until we start running our consciousness through it, like electricity through a circuit. This then makes that particular circuit seem “real”. You Always Take SOMETHING to Be True… You’re always “buying into” a particular line of thinking.

How to Stop Trying So Hard (or Just Be Who You Are) God has given you one face, and you make yourself another. – William Shakespeare For most of us, the plan is to have an extraordinary life. Our time in this world is so precious, and brief, it just makes sense to get everything we can out of each day. And then, by building one day upon the next, we can create a life full of meaning. However, something can happen along the way when attempting to find this meaning – we begin trying too hard. I have seen this many times in my professional career. Long hours spent away from the people who matter the most, agreeing to decisions and directions that are not aligned with our personal values, and saying things we really don’t mean, but feel compelled to say anyway, are all examples of trying too hard and not living within our hearts. We can try too hard in our personal relationships as well. Instead of trying so hard to avoid what you do not want to become in your life, focus on who you are and who you are becoming. Willingness to be yourself.

Don’t Rent Your Life Own It! I ain’t gonna live forever. I just want to live while I’m alive. – from the song It’s My Life by Jon Bon Jovi I learned the words to It’s My Life several years ago even though I never memorized the lyrics. Instead, I allowed the song, and its meaning, to be written on my heart where it still lives today. The song was played for me during a time when I thought I had to be perfect; when I had to be in control to find peace. After allowing the song’s words into my heart, I realized it wasn’t too late to build a life that belonged to me and not one nestled in the shadows of dimly-lit rooms, never-emptied glasses or inappropriate touches. Today my life is about savoring every moment; it’s about appreciating exactly what I have. What I find most liberating about my life contract is I don’t need to have it perfectly memorized to find peace because the words have always lived on my heart – I just had to set them free. My Life-Ownership Contract What are the words to your life contract?

A Simple Path to Savoring Every Moment “Begin at once to live, and count each separate day as a separate life.” ~ Seneca The days are growing shorter. Emily and I were reviewing her first homework assignment last Wednesday evening when she noticed the sun was already setting. I looked out the kitchen window and was surprised to see how dark it was so early in the evening. It’s still summer by the calendar, but its days are numbered. Before summer leaves, I want to be sure to show my gratitude for the gifts it gave to my family. The summer shined on us. While there are still new goals and more adventures ahead of me, I feel myself moving into a period of savoring. Sometimes the simple path to savoring every moment is realizing the sun is setting a little earlier each day. Autumn will soon be here. And for me? I will be right here with an eye toward the western sky watching the days grow shorter. Savoring every moment. What is A Simple Path? This post is in A Simple Path, a series of short pieces inspired by my own life experiences.

The art of creating meaning into your life | Soul Hiker Photo by Faungg I think one of the most fundamental questions we come to ask in our lives is “what is the purpose of my life?” which can be transcribed into “How meaningful is the life I am living at the moment?” This is a personalization of the more general and philosophical question “What is the meaning of life and everything?” These questions often arise when we are going through major life transitions or y-points in our lives where crucial decisions and drastic changes have to be made. When we go through big changes our reality bends and shifts because we are breaking away from our old worldview and leaping into a new one. It is not easy to answer such questions for the simple reasons that the answer to such questions lie exclusively within us and not outside of us. But how can we give more meaning to our lives? Happiness and self-realization depend on how much our lives are enriched with meaning and purpose. Unfolding the bigger picture 1. 2. 3. We are deeply attached to things. 4.

All I Can Promise is that I Will Change | Teeny Tiny Pieces “I Promise.” Two powerful words ~ Those who know and love me understand that I do my best … I generally keep my word. But sometimes, when we’re in the midst of awakening change, making a commitment to do, give, or be something we’re striving for, presents a challenge that we hadn’t expected. We realize that our time, resources, and energy are spread too thin. Change … real soul-searching, gut wrenching change, can make us downright uncomfortable! So, we make choices. Change is inevitable. Often, just when we muster the courage to change, the bittersweet war between our emotions ensues. Please make John welcome ~We’re all so scared of failure. The dreaded ‘F’ word. To many failure is a personal rejection by the world or by life itself. It’s easy to see why. Relationships might not have worked or love never permanently came to stay. But, actually this is proof, if ever you needed it, that you’re not failing but gradually and steadily winning and that any time soon it’s all going to wonderfully come together. Here are the precise reasons why you can never really fail whatever happens. 1. Ask any sporting star and they will tell you that their defeats helped them hone their talents to become a champion. When you lose, you learn. 2. 3. You may have just been saved.
