Hot Potatoes Home Page How Can You Use Audio in the Classroom? There are many ways to use recorded books in the classroom, but here are some of the most popular tried-and-true methods for engaging your readers with audiobooks. On this site, you’ll find four sample audio excerpts, each accompanied by a teacher-tested lesson plan and reproducible to build and reinforce reading skills. Audiobooks support literature study and motivate kids to enjoy literature, and they help develop reading skills such as comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary. Recorded books can be used anytime by ESL students or others who struggle with print text, or who need help accessing the book in order to keep up with the class.

Auto-Tune Antares Vocal Processor AVP-1 (mid) Auto-Tune was initially created by Andy Hildebrand, an engineer working for Exxon. Hildebrand developed methods for interpreting seismic data and subsequently realized that the technology could be used to detect, analyze, and modify the pitch in audio files.[3] #FRIT7234 For busy teachers, there are limited opportunities within the school day to be observed, to observe other teachers, to pause and reflect on the details of specific classroom moments, and to receive support from colleagues. Since in-person observations may be difficult to arrange, teachers may find themselves going it alone when trying out new learning, refining practice, or facing challenges in their classroom -- at times without much feedback or support. A robust new video observation toolkit from Harvard helps address these challenges by suggesting ways of using video technology to rethink traditional approaches to teacher observation and professional development. Downloads from the toolkit include a variety of resources to help school leaders, teachers, teacher leaders, instructional coaches, and personal learning networks prepare for, launch, and evaluate the success of video observations in school communities.

#FRIT7234 Happy Sunday, friends! Today I wanted to quickly stop by to share one of my favorite notepads and a simple, no frills way to keep track of which students have received a positive note. Since opening 4 years ago, our school has used PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports) as a school-wide system for setting expectations and managing behavior. (I'm working on a post to share more about how our school makes PBIS work and the awesome things it does for our students!) As a part of PBIS, we have a school guideline of 5:1 positive to negative interactions when working with students *and* staff. These positive interactions can come in the form of a high-five, a smile, a cheer, a note, a phone call, or so many other things.

The Only Way to Solve Discipline Problems for Good When it comes to dealing with discipline problems, we teachers have a few different choices… We can ignore it.We can yell at the student. We can give an eloquent lecture. We can calmly tell the student to correct their behavior. We can assign a consequence and move on. But while some of these options are clearly better than others, none of them are the most effective way to deal with ongoing discipline problems. And that’s because all of these are just surface solutions.

FRIT 7234 Photo Credit Competent note taking is one of those study skills that students are rarely taught in high schools. I, like many others, learned note-taking the hard way by the sink or swim method in college. As my older kids get closer and closer to finishing high school and heading out to the world of the college lecture hall, I have been researching exactly how to teach them this valuable skill. This post will list several different ways to learn to take notes but there is really no substitute for practice. 10 Things Librarians Should Do Before School is Out It's the final countdown! Another school year in the books (well, nearly...). Why does it seem like the beginning and end of the year are the most frantic times?
