There are two sections included here. A Conversational Presentation of a Five in a Row Unit There is of course no "absolute" way to present Five in a Row lessons. Whatever time in day you choose to do your Five in a Row lessons, begin by cuddling up on the sofa or big chair and saying: "Let's read a book together!" Day One On the first day, after you've read the story through together, you simply say conversationally, "Did you notice that our story today takes place in a foreign country? Ask your student if he knows where China is. Now continue by asking your student if he has ever heard of people living on boats like the one in the story? Continue talking about the length of the Yangtze River and how the people of China live, using the facts listed in your manual. Day Two Day Three Day Four Day Five

The Story About Ping | Life's Treasured Moments We are starting a duck unit and began with The Story About Ping. There were so many activities to choose from it was hard to decide. Here are a few that we did at our house. Geography The first thing we do with each story is talk about where it takes place. Science In Science we discussed buoyancy. Reading In Reading we sequenced the events in the story as we read it the second time. Learning about Ducks We also learned about preening and how ducks take oil from their preening gland to spread on their feathers to stop the water from sinking in. Math One of our math activities was to create a pictograph of Ping’s family. Music My favorite activity that we did all week was using musical instruments and household items to add sound effects to the story. Like this: Like Loading...

GUYS READ PARENTING TWINS: Repost: Useful Five in a Row Resources from GREAT BLOGS for The Story About Ping Hello, I am working on Pinterest. I am amazed how helpful it is for finding ideas and resources for teaching my little ones. As I prepare for co-ops this fall….I have the privilege of teaching the younger crew….it should be fun….I love storybooks and I enjoying using Five in A Row years ago with my first BATCH of kiddos…. I burned out that time years ago when I used 5 in a Row WITH MY OLDEST 3 KIDS…which is almost impossible with Five in A Row since it is stress free….I OVERDID IT…I think I checked out 20 books each week to RESEARCH my topics thoroughly…it seems silly and funny now….BUT NOT THEN…The kids didn’t notice but OH BOY that was a doosey school year. We had to put Five In A Row away for an extended Break!!
