As a unix/software guy, I really enjoy having the power of a BSD/Unix system readily available, without having to install some hack like cygwin. (I’m not knocking cygwin, it’s a really nice Windows add-on, but I prefer not to run Windows, in general.) I also like the OS X user interface, and lately, that it runs the very cool boxee media center software. So, I wanted to build a boxee box. I went with an Intel D945GCLF2 motherboard. I bought the following from newegg: D945GCLF2 motherboard – $80Any old PATA (SATA should work, too) DVD Burner – $252GB Kingston 240-pin DDR2 667 SDRAM – $21APEX MI-100 Black/Silver Mini-ITX Case w/ 250w PSU – $5680GB Western Digital SATA Hard Drive – $37Shipping/Handling + rush processing – $15 INSTALL GUIDE FOR RETAIL OS X on D945GCLF2 Original info from: You’ll need to download the following items: Reset D945GCLF2 BIOS to defaults

tonymacx86 Blog People who know me know that I always recommend Apple laptops. I am convinced that they are the best laptops on the planet and worth every penny. However, a few weeks back, I picked up the HP Probook 4530s to review and monkey around with. This particular model has gathered a lot of steam on the forum, and considering the price ($475) and relative compatibility it seemed like a cool little project. Compared to building a custom desktop computer, hackintoshing a laptop is a dramatic undertaking, and can be a very painful process. With the launch of Mac OS X Lion, Intel's onboard HD 3000 graphics, integrated into all Sandy Bridge mobile CPUs, became fully compatible. I went with the lowest end HP Probook 4530s XU015UT. There are a few major drawbacks to this particular model, especially when compared with a Mac laptop. The main reason people buy PC laptops to hackintosh is because of the perceived cost savings. Let us know what other laptop models have worked for you!
