Holiday knitting cheat sheet: A hat for every head | Fringe Association I might not be doing any holiday knitting this year but I can feel the angst of those of you out there comparing your to-knit-for list against the number of days remaining. So I have one soothing word for you: hats. I’m pretty sure last year was the official Year of the Cowl, and they can be incredibly quick to knit. (E.g.) 1. the she-hipster: Bayard (or Norby) 2. the he-hipster: Bulletproof Aran Hat 3. the lovely lady: Milanese Lace Topper (free) (or Rosa) 4. the tough guy: Chunkeanie (free) 5. the traditionalist: Snöflinga (or Rosebud) 6. the outdoorsy chick: Spirograph (or Tetsubou) 7. the dapper fella: Felted Shetland Beret, preferably done Kent Turman-style 8. the minimalist: What 9. the fun-loving friend: Chapeau, with pompoms of course 10. the mystery-exchange recipient: Simple Rib Hat or Big Rib Hat (free) Come to think of it, you might want to knit up that last one in an assortment of colors to have on hand.

See diagram. Sew the slipper by joining matching colors from the diagram, red against red, blue against blue etc. I've recieved some comments that the colors of the diagram are hard to separate when printed, so I've added another diagram with letters instead of colors for people without color printers.

Scrappy Ski Hat - a free pattern - Lete's Knits I have lots of leftovers lying around the house. I keep collecting them in small bags according to yarn weight – maybe I’ll use them for a project in the future. Yesterday when I was watching something on TV I unconsciously cast on for a hat. It was totally unplanned. This is what I made – sort of a ski hat :-) I don’t ski, but this is what my Hubby called it and added “Oh you’ve made a hat just like the hats we used to wear when we were kids”. I did not write down thoroughly tested and edited instructions but if you’d like to make a similar hat I’d like to share what I remember with you. You will need the following: – yarn: scraps of aran weight yarn “Drops NEPAL” in various colors. Size The hat should fit an average adult’s head with circumference of 52-56 cm/21-22″. Gauge 18 sts over 10 cm/4″ in Stockinette with bigger needle (the hat was not washed!) Brim Using smaller size needle, CO 88 sts. Body Change to bigger size needle and begin working stripe sequences. Oh, one more thing.

bonnet rond chouette editorial spring 06 Note: To make this pattern easier to understand, the predominantly yellow (MC) side will be called the RS, and the predominantly black (CC) side will be called the WS. CO 48 stitches using CC. I recommend using a cable cast on, but a tubular cast on is also nice for double knitting. Now it's time to add the second color, and work the first row. The first row is worked entirely in MC on the RS, and CC on the WS. You should have what looks like the first row of 1x1 rib, but with the purled stitches in a different color from the knitted ones. Turn the work, so the WS is facing. You have just worked 2 rows in double-knit stockinette stitch, with one side (RS) worked in MC, and one side (WS) in CC. Begin Chart Pattern: When working from this chart, the odd-numbered rows will be RS rows, and the even-numbered rows will be WS rows. Work through all rows of the chart, then repeat rows 97-102 until the scarf is the desired length. BO all sts using CC.
