Air Force Survival Training Manual – Free Download Given that there are so many survival manuals out there, it’s hard to know which ones are worth having in your survival library. Well, if there’s one survival manual that I highly recommend it is the Air Force Survival Training manual. The Air Force Survival Training manual (specifically the AFR-64) is, in my opinion, the cream of the crop. In fact, many of the numerous commercial and military books and manuals are based off of this manual (much of which which is copied verbatim — both the words and text!). I feel it is much better than the Army Survival Manual (FM 3-05.70) and even has a slight edge over Wiseman’s SAS Survival Handbook (which is also excellent). Here is just a portion of what this 600 page manual contains: first aid for illness and injuryfinding your way without a mapbuilding a firefinding food and waterusing ropes and tying knotsmountain survivalconcealment techniquessignaling for helpsurvival at seabuilding sheltersanimal trackingpredicting the weatherand much more…

untitled untitled How to Remove a Tick: An Illustrated Guide The arrival of summer — and along with it all sorts of outdoors activities — also ushers in the arrival of ticks. This guide covers what to do in the event that you find a tick that has already bitten you and embedded itself in your skin. However, the best thing to do is to take a few precautions that’ll increase your chances of not having to extricate a tick from your person to begin with: Wear long-sleeved clothing — especially pants, as it’s often our legs that are most exposed to the grass and plants that we brush up against when outdoors.Ticks are particularly prone to moist and humid areas, so be especially careful in those conditions.Use repellent with DEET. While ticks have been scarily imprinted into our psyche, only one species of tick, and only a minority of that species, actually carries Lyme Disease (there are other diseases, but this is the most feared). How to Put Together the Ultimate Survival Kit Would you be willing to stake your life on your survival kit? I would. There are so many debates when it comes to the perfect survival kit. In my opinion, the items you choose to be in a survival kit can be very different based on the situation you see yourself in (maritime vs. desert survival) as well as your level of skill. For that reason there are a number of factors that determine what items you ultimately put in it. For this article, I will explain to you how I organize my kit, the elements that make it up, and hopefully provide some inspiration for your own. My entire kit is based off of three tiers — one that I carry with me, one that I keep in my car (and sometimes on me), and one that is in my home ready to go in a moments notice if I had to bug out. The Three-Tiered Survival Kit First Tier: This ‘kit’ includes those items that you have with you at all times. Folding Knife: If you’ve ever been in a survival situation (planned or not) you know how essential a knife is. Conclusion
