Manly P. Hall Reveals the Stories in Our Stars (or, Astrotheology: On the Astronomical Origins of Myths) Most people’s eyes glaze over at the mention of “astrology” these days. Mainly because the first things that spring to mind are spirituality-for-entertainment crystal gazers and a list of general-to-the-point-of-meaningless life forecasts next to the Sunday comics (and now, apparently, a divination system to compete with/outperform other scam artists on Wall Street). Manly P Hall isn’t interested in the horoscope-ified version either, but in examining how it was the ancients studied the stars and their locations, the significance of their movements, and mapping them in constellations. Also, how various myths are mapped to celestial (including planetary and solar) motions. Hall distinguishes it here as “astro-theology,” and, being a more sophisticated take on the subject, I figured it would be appreciated by disinfonauts (and simply deserves a wider audience, as is). Here is the first lecture, broken up into Parts 1A and 1B: Related:

OBAMA IGNORES BUT PRINCE CHARLES ADDRESSES THIS HORROR: Christians Are Being Burned Alive, Beheaded, Crucified, Tortured To Death And Imprisoned In Metal Shipping Containers Details Published: Saturday, 21 December 2013 08:40 "It’s Christmastime and regardless what anyone else says, this is the time when the birth of Jesus Christ is celebrated and remembered. It’s a special time for Christians – like me. As reported in The Telegraph via BizPac Review, “The United Kingdom’s Prince Charles addressed a problem largely ignored by President Obama — Christians are being targeted for persecution in the Middle East and North Africa by fundamentalist Muslims." The “coming persecution of Christians” has already begun. The information shared below is extremely graphic. #1 Christian Taxi Driver Pulled Out Of His Cab And Beheaded In Egypt: One attack involved taxi driver Rafaat Aziz Mina, who was slaughtered in an Alexandria street just because he was Christian. An amateur video shot by a resident shows a mob blocking cars, checking the passengers inside. #2 Tortured To Death By U.S. Then, to cries of “Allahu Akbar!”

Nadezhda Tolokonnikova of Pussy Riot's prison letters to Slavoj Žižek 2 January 2013 Dear Nadezhda, I hope you have been able to organise your life in prison around small rituals that make it tolerable, and that you have time to read. Here are my thoughts on your predicament. John Jay Chapman, an American political essayist, wrote this about radicals in 1900: "They are really always saying the same thing. But what is this truth? [Žižek then explores what he sees as a global trend towards limiting democracy.] But the crisis provided proof that it is these experts who don't know what they are doing, rather than the people. No wonder, then, that Pussy Riot make us all uneasy – you know very well what you don't know, and you don't pretend to have any quick or easy answers, but you are telling us that those in power don't know either. Comradely greetings, Slavoj 23 February 2013 Dear Slavoj, Once, in the autumn of 2012, when I was still in the pre-trial prison in Moscow with other Pussy Riot activists, I visited you. A Neuroscientist's Radical Theory of How Networks Become Conscious - Wired Science WIRED: How do you square what you believe about animal consciousness with how they're used in experiments? Koch: There are two things to put in perspective. First, there are vastly more animals being eaten at McDonald's every day. The number of animals used in research pales in comparison to the number used for flesh. WIRED: Getting back to the theory, is your version of panpsychism truly scientific rather than metaphysical? Koch: In principle, in all sorts of ways. The theory also says you can have simple systems that are conscious, and complex systems that are not. The more relevant question, to me as a scientist, is how can I disprove the theory today. WIRED: I still can't shake the feeling that consciousness arising through integrated information is — arbitrary, somehow. Koch: If you think about any explanation of anything, how far back does it go? With consciousness, it's ultimately going to be like that.

RADIATION EFFECTS IN U.S. FROM JAPAN NUKE ACCIDENT November 25, 2013 -- (TRN ) -- Radiation reaching the United States from the nuclear meltdowns in Fukushima, Japan is causing significant harm; affecting newborn Human babies in California, Pacific Ocean sea life, and even inland wild life. Radiation is causing massive die-offs of sea life as well as mammals, birds and reptiles inland. High percentages of inland animals that are not already dead are losing their fur, bleeding from lesions all over their bodies and failing to reproduce. The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster was a nuclear energy accident at the Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant, caused by an earthquake and, later, a tsunami (tidal wave) generated by that earthquake on 11 March 2011. The plant comprised six separate boiling water reactors originally designed by General Electric (GE) and maintained by the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO). 'I Built The Platform Myself': M.I.A. On Being Heard hide captionM.I.A.'s fourth album, Matangi, is out now. Daniel Sannwald/Courtesy of the artist M.I.A.' It's been three years since M.I.A.' M.I.A.' "It's what's on the passport but I haven't used it since I was very young," she says. What M.I.A. didn't know about her real name until recently is that she shares it with a Hindu goddess — and, as she tells NPR's David Greene, it's one with whom she's grown to feel a particular kinship. Matangi is, as you've come to learn, the name of a Hindu goddess of music. She's basically a goddess of inner thoughts — the outward expression or the outward articulation of inner thoughts. Remind us who the untouchables were. The untouchables were basically the lowest caste in India. Matangi's dad was called Matanga, and he was the first person to gain enlightenment as an untouchable, without being reincarnated as a Brahman. Your father, whom you named your first album after, was a Tamil revolutionary in Sri Lanka, a separatist in a very violent place. Yes.

The 10 Largest Armies in the World | Curiosity Aroused Numbers may not be everything, but being able to overwhelm an enemy with sheer size does lend a certain advantage. There are a lot of other factors to consider when you’re trying to determine the strongest military on the planet (like firepower, technology, training and more), but if you’re curious about the largest armies in the world in terms of active personnel, read ahead. Keep in mind that these figures are combined totals, incorporating not only army personnel, but also navy, air force, special operations, marines, and other branches. Marine’s of the People’s Liberation Army (Photo credit: Wikipedia) It shouldn’t come as any shock that the largest army in the world belongs to the People’s Republic of China, also the most populous country on the planet. The U.S. The U.S. has the second-largest army on the planet, and as you can see, it has substantially fewer active members than that of the world’s largest army.
