Portraits with multiple Olympus FL-600r flashes | Rob Knight Photography
I haven’t been keeping up with my blog as much as I would like for the last few months, but I have a good excuse… My son, Deacon, was born just about six months ago. As you can imagine he takes up a lot of my time. My wife wanted to get some shots of him taking his first bites of solid food. I’m sure she just wanted some nice snapshots, but I thought this would be a good opportunity to try out the Olympus flash system with multiple Olympus FL-600r Wireless Flashes To control a flash wirelessly from the Olympus OM-D E-M5 you need to turn on RC mode. When RC mode is turned on in the camera, pressing the ‘ok’ button will bring up the flash control menu (press the ‘info’ button to see the SCP instead). For these shots I had one FL-600r flash in a Shoot Through Collapsible Umbrella high just to camera left. I placed another Fl-600r in a LumiQuest SoftBox III out of the frame to my son’s right. Once I had the lights set up I made a few test frames.

Portrait Photography Tips: Getting ready for your portrait session
A Good Headshot • Depicts a relaxed, confident you • Catches you in a natural state • Is taken by a photographer who can make you feel relaxed • Communicates something about your style and personality • Is a portrait you are proud to show to people A Bad Headshot • Was taken with an iPhone • Is a snapshot taken of you on vacation that you cropped around your head • Looks like you prepared for a glamour shot with too much makeup and over-styled hair • Is not taken by a professional photographer and doesn't show that you are serious about your career 1. Choosing clothing: MEN 2. Choosing clothing: WOMEN 3. Makeup- do it yourself or hire a make-up artist? 1. Think classic. Don't choose anything with bold, distracting patterns or colors. If you don't wear a tie, choose a non-white shirt if possible: white shirts without a jacket and tie to break them up can lose detail in the color and folds. Other looks that work: Looks that don't work as well: 2. These looks don't work as well: 3. 4.
Photo Snow Globes
The great snow gods have not been kind to us this year. If you’re still pining for wintery white, or just hoping it’d go away, we recommend a quick (and heartfelt) appeal. Luckily, we have just the thing to melt their frosty disposition: Photojojo’s Make-Your-Own Photo Snow Globes. Grab a bottle, photo, glitter, and corn syrup and you’re on your way to making an offering not even the gods could refuse. * Rigorous, double-blind studies have also proven Photo Snow Globes effective in melting the hearts of spouses, friends, and children. Ingredient List Water Bottle or empty mason jar – Fred works great! Step 1: Clean your Bottle Peel any labels and stickers off your bottle, scraping it gently to remove as much as possible. You should now be left with a clean bottle. Step 2: Crop your Photos Trim your two photos (or your single transparency) to about a half an inch shorter and thinner than your bottle or jar, leaving enough space to let the photo float freely but snug. Ta-Da!
