Typing lessons
This is, a web application that will help you teach touch typing. Touch typing is typing without using the sense of sight to find the keys. A person possessing touch typing skills will know their location on the keyboard through muscle memory. It can improve any individual's typing speed and accuracy dramatically. This is a short tutorial that will explain how does this application work. You can use the left and right arrow keys to navigate through these slides. This tutorial is based on these few principles: No boring, repetitive exercises. Initially it starts generating words from a small subset of the most frequent letters of the alphabet. When you are typing these words, keybr measures time to type a key for every letter in that subset. Once you familiarize yourself with the current subset of letters, the algorithm expands it, including more and more letters to it. So at any time, you will by typing the letters you are least familiar with. This is the text board. ? ? ? ? ?

Theoretical Biophysics - Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin - R_systemtb A Collaborative Project for the Establishment of a Systems Biology Framework to Understand Key Features of Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Tuberculosis (Tb) is a re-emerging global health threat caused by Mycobacterium Tuberculosis (MTb), a bacterium that can enter a dormant state and in this manner evade treatment. Despite global research efforts, mechanisms underlying pathogenesis, virulence and persistence of MTb infection remain poorly understood. The core strategy underlying the SysteMTb project is that a systems biology approach intertwining experimentally-driven model development and model-driven experimentation will provide improvement in understanding this threatening bacterium and will be pivotal in designing rational strategies for preventive and therapeutic interventions.

Plain Language - Clear Communication: An NIH Health Literacy Initiative Introduction to Plain Language at NIH Plain language is grammatically correct language that includes complete sentence structure and accurate word usage. The Disappearing Male The Disappearing Male is about one of the most important, and least publicized, issues facing the human species: the toxic threat to the male reproductive system. The last few decades have seen steady and dramatic increases in the incidence of boys and young men suffering from genital deformities, low sperm count, sperm abnormalities and testicular cancer. At the same time, boys are now far more at risk of suffering from ADHD, autism, Tourette's syndrome, cerebral palsy, and dyslexia. The Disappearing Male takes a close and disturbing look at what many doctors and researchers now suspect are responsible for many of these problems: a class of common chemicals that are ubiquitous in our world. Found in everything from shampoo, sunglasses, meat and dairy products, carpet, cosmetics and baby bottles, they are called "hormone mimicking" or "endocrine disrupting" chemicals and they may be starting to damage the most basic building blocks of human development. IOS Press - Journal Article Authors Euna Jeong1, Masao Nagasaki1, Ayumu Saito1, Satoru Miyano1 1Human Genome Center, Institute of Medical Science, University of Tokyo, Tokyo 108-8639, Japan With the rapidly accumulating knowledge of biological entities and networks, there is a growing need for a general framework to understand this information at a system level. Explaining vs. Storytelling for Startups Seattle investor and “startup guy” Chris Devore recently wrote about four categories of effort that will help founders show that their startup is growing and healthy. There are four important categories of effort that every startup team needs to keep in mind. Barcode Yourself by Scott Blake Barcode Yourself is a complete, interactive experience in the series of barcode art, created using the personalized data of participants. Enter an individual's gender, weight, height, age and location, and the barcode is formed using real-world data. The individualized barcode can then be printed, mapped, scanned, even depicted on a t-shirt or coffee mug. Uber-geeks can even test out their barcodes on their next grocery run. It is in scanning a barcode that the project reveals its humor, like a banner that reads: Disclaimer!

How To Identify Patterns in Time Series Data: Time Series Analysis In the following topics, we will first review techniques used to identify patterns in time series data (such as smoothing and curve fitting techniques and autocorrelations), then we will introduce a general class of models that can be used to represent time series data and generate predictions (autoregressive and moving average models). Finally, we will review some simple but commonly used modeling and forecasting techniques based on linear regression. For more information see the topics below. General Introduction In the following topics, we will review techniques that are useful for analyzing time series data, that is, sequences of measurements that follow non-random orders. Unlike the analyses of random samples of observations that are discussed in the context of most other statistics, the analysis of time series is based on the assumption that successive values in the data file represent consecutive measurements taken at equally spaced time intervals.

Surreal Storytelling Illustrations by Andrew Ferez Moscow-based Russian illustrator Andrew Ferez, aka 25kartinok, creates surreal scenes, each with their own fantastical narratives, that seamlessly merge various opposing elements. Digitally drawing his elaborate renderings, Ferez's work has a dark, fantasy-driven appeal. The digital artist manages to incorporate the human face into several areas of his works in creative ways. Whether multiple faces are fused with a crumbling city, facial features are protruding from urban architecture, or a woman's contemplative expression is formed out of the branches and leaves of a golden tree, Ferez does a brilliant job of fusing two normally separate entities. Even a giant typewriter integrated into a cathedral is in one of the artist's illustrations, making for a unique perspective of each component. Though they clearly don't belong to one another in the real world, there's something visually appealing about their combination that, for a second, looks right.

The 11 Best Psychology, Persuasion, and Usability Books You Should Read NOTE: This blog post was written in 2009. I have a new list of books at a newer blog post. I love to read. I read fiction and history and psychology… I’m an avid reader. Which means when I give talks on psychology, usability, user experience, or my book, Neuro Web Design, I often say, “Oh, there’s this great book…” and people then ask me for my “favorite books” list. I always tell them I’ll put one together, and then I never do.
