Highline was founded in 1961 as the first community college in King County. The main campus is located on 80 acres (320,000 m2) of hilltop land that overlook Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains to the west.[2] Currently there are approximately 10,000 students and 350,000 alumni of the college.[3] NBA player, Brian Scalabrine, who has often been described as a fan favorite, went to college here before transferring to the University of Southern California. About the Army Army Active Before I joined the Army I guess I was lazy, but then I wanted a challenge in my life, so I joined the Army. Before I joined the Army, I was cooking at a restaurant. I was in college I was going for my civil engineering degree, I was finishing up my Basic. Well I graduated from college; I really didn't feel I was doing everything I could do. There I was, 20 years old, I was not very happy with my job and I just decided that I needed a change. I had heard horror stories coming into the Army about Basic Training. I know I'm unusual, but I'm one of those people who was really excited to go to Basic Training. In the U.S. And knowing that I'm part of something bigger than me.
Humanities Home The UAS campus rests on the shores of Auke Lake in the Tongass National Forest. It's not uncommon to see a Spanish class outside on the lawn, a creative writing class hiking through the woods with notebooks, or an art class working in sketchbooks along Auke Lake. Twelve miles from campus is downtown Juneau with summer tourist activity, two museums, the seat of state government, numerous art galleries, and the state's only professional theatre. These community riches provide educational and internship opportunities for students pursuing a degree in the Humanities. Classes are small with typically no more than 20 students. The mission of the UAS Humanities Department is to help students develop independence, flexibility, and creativity in thinking and personal growth.

Fresh Start Effective May 1, 2003, a former University of Alaska Southeast undergraduate who returns to the University after a minimum of three years will have the opportunity to petition to begin a new cumulative (or Fresh Start) GPA . Petitions for a Fresh Start must be completed as part of the admissions process. The Fresh Start is declared provisionally at the point of admission, but not awarded permanently until the student has started and completed 12 credits of academic study with a cumulative GPA for those 12 credits of 2.5 or higher. When the Fresh Start is permanently declared, all previous UAS grades and credits earned more than three years prior to the current admission date are excluded from consideration for degree requirements. A student may be allowed advanced standing or a waiver of requirements just as any non-Fresh Start student, but won't be allowed credit by examination for courses lost through use of the Fresh Start GPA program. A student may begin a Fresh Start GPA only once.
