Your Math and Physics Questions Answered
Physicist: This famous equation is a little more subtle than it appears. It does provide a relationship between energy and matter, but importantly it does not say that they’re equivalent. First, it’s worth considering what energy actually is. Rather than being an actual “thing” in the universe, energy is best thought of as an abstract (there’s no such thing as pure energy). Energy takes a heck of a lot of forms: kinetic, chemical, electrical, heat, mechanical, light, sound, nuclear, etc. Each different form has it’s own equation(s).

Math Monday: Hula Hoop Geometry, Part 1 By Glen Whitney for the Museum of Mathematics Math Mondays have so far featured a wide array of different items from which one can make a tremendous variety of geometric constructions, but there has not yet been one on hula hoops. This week and next we’ll remedy that oversight. Also, the postings so far have almost entirely shown the constructions as fait accompli, so this series will also try to give a bit of insight into the process of devising a new creation.

How to Create a Personal Information Encryption Scheme to Easily Hide Your Data in Plain Sight I think the article is saying you could use LastPass to generate your LastPass password and the article's encryption scheme to keep the password in plain sight. Then you would not have to remember it. For example if your LastPass encryption key password was something like /%/K\G,_sO¦R¥ÅÀbݾöà~¼ÐÂ4×òO? Wonders of Math - The Game of Life What is the Game of Life? by Paul Callahan Rules of the Game of Life Life is played on a grid of square cells--like a chess board but extending infinitely in every direction. A cell can be live or dead. A live cell is shown by putting a marker on its square.

The World Factbook People from nearly every country share information with CIA, and new individuals contact us daily. If you have information you think might interest CIA due to our foreign intelligence collection mission, there are many ways to reach us. If you know of an imminent threat to a location inside the U.S., immediately contact your local law enforcement or FBI Field Office. For threats outside the U.S., contact CIA or go to a U.S. Embassy or Consulate and ask for the information to be passed to a U.S. official. Please know, CIA does not engage in law enforcement.

What does 0^0 (zero raised to the zeroth power) equal? Why do mathematicians and high school teachers disagree Clever student: I know! Now we just plug in x=0, and we see that zero to the zero is one! Cleverer student: No, you’re wrong! You’re not allowed to divide by zero, which you did in the last step. How to Plot the Cyclomatic Complexity of Your Project - Streamhead The Cyclomatic Complexity Number of your program is a very rough measurement of how many paths can be taken through your source code. It can be calculated fully automatically. While it is far from perfect, it will give you an idea of how complex your program is. More importantly, it can also be used as a metric for the complexity evolution of a program over time. This post shows how to create this graph using some basic tools. One of my preferred talks at Devoxx 2010 was Neal Ford’s explanation of how the design of a program emerges over time.

Exploring Multivariable Calculus And then relaunch Chrome. Instructors: If you are an instructor using this project in any way, please send me an email to let me know of your interest. I would love to see more people using the materials from this project, and it is important that I be able to report how the project is doing to the NSF. I also encourage anyone who is interested in this project to take the time to write something on the discussion board.

Six Thinking Hats Six Thinking Hats is a book by Edward de Bono which describes a tool for group discussion and individual thinking involving six colored hats. "Six Thinking Hats" and the associated idea parallel thinking provide a means for groups to plan thinking processes in a detailed and cohesive way, and in doing so to think together more effectively.[2] Underlying principles[edit] The premise of the method is that the human brain thinks in a number of distinct ways which can be deliberately challenged, and hence planned for use in a structured way allowing one to develop tactics for thinking about particular issues. de Bono identifies six distinct directions in which the brain can be challenged. In each of these directions the brain will identify and bring into conscious thought certain aspects of issues being considered (e.g. gut instinct, pessimistic judgement, neutral facts).

Math Learning Disabilities By: Kate Garnett While children with disorders in mathematics are specifically included under the definition of Learning Disabilities, seldom do math learning difficulties cause children to be referred for evaluation. In many school systems, special education services are provided almost exclusively on the basis of children's reading disabilities. The 30 Most Expensive Paintings of All Time This is the collection of the highest known prices ever paid for painting. The earliest sale on the list (Vase with Fifteen Sunflowers by Vincent van Gogh) is from 1987, and more than trebled the previous record price, set only two years before, introducing a new era in top picture prices. The sale was also significant in that for the first time a “modern” painting (in this case from 1888) became the record holder, as opposed to the old master painting which had always previously held it. Since at that time sales of the most valuable painting have usually been made at the auctions, though that had by no means been the case before, and the list below still shows some “private sales”, including the three most expensive. The current record price was paid for a work from 1948 by Jackson Pollock, and there are only three old master painting in the collection below. This list is ordered by consumer price index inflation-adjusted value in millions of 2009 United States dollars.
