Canon EOS 7D Review Review based on a production Canon EOS 7D, firmware v1.0.9 Canon's X0D series was, for many years, essentially the default choice for keen enthusiasts, professionals and aspiring-professionals who wanted top-level image quality and functionality without the bulk (or price) of a pro-level camera such as the 1D series. The 10D, 20D and 30D were hugely successful and popular cameras, and you didn't have to spend long shooting with them to understand why. However, like every other sector of the DSLR market, there are some very competitive rivals, in terms of both price and features. Which brings us to the 7D, a camera that seems determined to wrestle back the king of APS-C crown. Key features 18MP APS-C CMOS sensor 8 frames per second continuous shooting 1080p HD video recording with manual controls 3.0 inch Clear View II LCD screen with 920,000 dots 19-point AF system (all cross-type) 1.0x magnification and 100% coverage viewfinder Wireless flash control Environmental sealing

D3X and D3S team up to nab a Nebula: Nikon D3 - D1 / D700 Forum Cameras in Concert: No EXIF data. View: original size The Result (imaging camera D3X on the 400 VR + TC-20, f/7, 20 min., ISO 400): View: original size The Method: Long-exposure astrophotography requires tracking the apparent movement of the stars across the sky. For exposures of 10 min. or more at these magnifications, it's necessary to guide the mount much more precisely. Shooting location was a suburban hilltop not far from home. Definitely looking forward to my next trip to a location with even darker skies.

Canon EOS 40D Review Review based on a production Canon EOS 40D The EOS 40D becomes the sixth Canon 'prosumer' digital SLR, a line which started back in 2000 with the EOS D30, and how far we've come. It's been eighteen months since the EOS 30D and although on the surface the 40D looks like a fairly subtle upgrade there's a lot that makes this an even better camera. Sigma 500/4.5 EX HSM Review For a long time I worked with a couple of Sigma long lenses most of them were Zoom lenses, such as the Sigma 100-300/4 HSM (which I still have) and the Sigma 50-500/4-6.3 EX DG HSM. The lenses were good , but I always had the feeling that I needed more reach. So I did some research and it was clear that I would need a fixed-focal Lens. There was not much choice for my kind of budget ( <3.000 Euro). So I ended up with a used Sigma 500/4.5 EX HSM for my Canon camera bodies. The lens weighs around 3.2kg and is 35cm long without the lens-hood attached to it, which makes it very compact and lightweight compared to similiar lenses such as the Canon 500/4L. 4m - 8m 8m - infinity full The Sigma 500/4.5 EX HSM also has a 46mm drop-in Filter, which contains a standard clear filter and can also be equipped with a polarizer, which is also shipped with this lens. In the last years I shot thousands of images with this lens and I'm still pretty happy with its performance. Review by Sebastian Erras

Canon Powershot G12 Quick Review Review based on a production Powershot G12 This is the latest in our series of 'Quick Reviews.' We use this format for cameras that are operationally similar and identical in terms of output to models we've already reviewed. Canon's Powershot G-series is a stalwart of the high-end compact camera market. As you may have seen in our recent high-end compact camera group test, competition in this segment of the market is fierce. Along with the Nikon Coolpix P7000, the Canon Powershot G12 is the largest 'traditional' (i.e. fixed lens, small sensor) compact camera currently available. Compared to Canon Powershot G11 - key differences The G12 is extremely similar to its predecessor the G11 in terms of specification, but Canon has made some significant improvements. The Photojojo Store! - the Most Awesome Photo Gifts and Gear for Photographers Adapter Tubes If you wish to use converter lenses and/or filters, an adapter tube is required. To the best of my knowledge, there are a number of commonly used and frequently mentioned adapters; however, this section will only discuss the Pemaraal, Yoshida and Chen versions. Click on the adapter tube name for more details. Before You Mount an Adapter Tube ..... Before you can use any adapter tube, the lens ring and lens hood must be removed from the lens barrel as shown below. This exposes a male thread for the supplied lens hood. The Use of Filters Since the filter thread sizes of these adapter tubes are commonly used ones, filters can be added easily. A Few Notes Which adapter should I use?
