evangile-et-peinture Mary Azarian Woodcut Printmaker - Vermont Fine Art: Chagall Ballet Illustrations, signature authentication Expert: Dan Twyman - 8/14/2008 QuestionQUESTION: I have several Chagall Ballet Illustrations printed by Tudor Publishing Co, Mourlot Freres, New York, 1969 with a pencil signature. They are beautiful. The COA is by George Kopel of the National Art Guild. How little I can find on him and this Guild is suspicious, but I present the only information I could find. The National Art Guild was a division of National Art Brokers. And: In closing George Kopel is dead. These explanations sound plausible, but there is nothing to substantiate them either way, hence the conundrum! ANSWER: Read this excerpt: There are several works by Dali, Picasso and Matisse currently for sale on eBay, all of them offered with a Certificate of Authenticity. This came from a site about Art Fraud. The link is: Dan QUESTION: Hi Dan, Thanks for you quick response. Thanks again, David Be prepared to spend some $$$.

Federico Fellini: 8 1/2 | Film At least half of all film-makers asked about the directors they most admire include Federico Fellini in their top three. And he seems to have a particular fascination for purely commercial directors - perhaps because his was the cinema of visually expressed emotions rather than intellectual rigour. He was indeed a great director. But there's a kind of critical resistance to his work that once caused him to write to me (I was then deputy film critic for the Guardian) to ask if there was anything I could do about the carping notices that invariably flowed from the pen of Richard Roud, my predecessor. There was not. There's no doubt, though, that 8 1/2, made 12 years later, is his real masterpiece; La Dolce Vita and Fellini's Satyricon his most spectacular epics, while Amarcord is the self-referential film that turns his most faithful supporters weak at the knees. When it came out, the film seemed incomprehensible to many who had hitherto loved his work. Useful sites: ´ IMDb page To buy:

Marc Chagall biography Marc Chagall was a Belorussian-born French artist whose work generally was based on emotional association rather than traditional pictorial fundamentals. Synopsis Born in Belarus in 1887, Marc Chagall was a painter, printmaker and designer associated with several major artistic styles, synthesizing elements of Cubism, Symbolism and Fauvism. Early Years Marc Chagall was born on July 7, 1887, in Vitebsk, Belarus (in the Russian Empire), and was raised in a devoutly Jewish environment with eight other siblings. After learning the elements of drawing at school, from 1907 to 1910, Chagall studied painting in St. Chagall moved to Paris in 1910, and then moved into a studio on the edge of town in a Bohemian area known as La Ruche ("the Beehive"). This period—during which he created several images of his childhood and hometown of Vitebsk—is considered Chagall's strongest, artistically, and the style he developed would remain with him for the rest of his life.
