Hacked AP Twitter feed reporting fake White House attack rocks markets Stock prices plunged and then quickly recovered after a Twitter account belonging to the Associated Press was hacked and used to send a bogus report falsely claiming that the White House had been bombed and President Obama was injured. "The @AP Twitter account has been suspended after it was hacked," an unaffected Twitter account belonging to the news organization confirmed. "The tweet about an attack on the White House was false." In a testament to the power that social media has on real-world finances, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 150 points, or about 1 percent, immediately following the tweet, with other indexes reacting similarly. The Dow quickly regained the lost ground about seven minutes after the sell-off began, when the AP confirmed that the report was false. The bogus tweet was sent from one of at least of two compromised Twitter accounts belonging to the Associated Press.

Module: RSS Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a family of formats that describe ‘feeds,’ specially constructed XML documents that allow an interested person to subscribe and receive updates from a particular web service. This portion of the standard library provides tooling to read and create these feeds. The standard library supports RSS 0.91, 1.0, 2.0, and Atom, a related format. Here are some links to the standards documents for these formats: Simple RSS RubyGem: Spotlight on Ruby Gems The Simple-RSS RubyGem provides a simplified interface for reading RSS and Atom documents. You will find short, concise syntax and an easy way to take information from feeds and iterate over the elements in the document. Though this interface is rather simplistic--or example it has no XPath queries and can't write RSS documents--it's just what you need 99% of the time. When parsing some file formats, you don't always need many features.

Agile RSS Aggregator in Ruby By Ilya Grigorik on March 22, 2007 A liberal RSS aggregator in 26 lines of Ruby - may be hard to believe, but it's true. On top of that, it is also capable of serving static files, has a templating engine, and accepts an arbitrary number and types of RSS feeds - talk about squeezing functionality out of every line! Leveraging Ruby libraries Knowing the right libraries is a godsend in any language, but when this knowledge is combined with Ruby, all kinds of spectacular things begin to happen. OSORO Open Tableware System Most people tend to keep different kinds of tableware for different purposes: cooking, eating, storing, microwave-heating, and freezing. History[edit] Interacting With The API — Tastypie 0.9.14 documentation Tastypie also gives you full write capabilities in the API. Since the EntryResource has the no-limits Authentication & Authorization on it, we can freely write data. The good news is that there are no new URLs to learn. 4 Ways To Build Business Software Users Actually Love Over the last 10 years, great design has become an essential for consumer software success. If it’s not easy and enjoyable to use, forget about it. But despite how much time people spend interacting with technology at work--McKinsey found that email alone takes up nearly a third of people’s time--not to mention the $297 billion now spent annually on such technology, design in business software has not kept pace. “Business software” conjures images of faceless IT departments in gray buildings, but this is really about software for people, when they’re at work. For those of us who look at a computer screen all day, badly designed software isn’t just time-wasting; it’s soul-sucking. We all deserve great design, not just when we go home, but from 9 to 5, or from 10 to 10.

3D-Printed Parasitic Fungus Chic For her ITP class project, NYU student/designer Xuedi Chen used 3D-printing software and chia seeds to spawn these mossy fashion accessories. Their origins are somewhat grotesque: The Invasive Growth Series was directly inspired by a parasitic fungus. The cordyceps operates by infecting an insect with spores, growing inside the insect while performing a sort of “mind control” that forces it to clasp onto a plant just in time for the cordyceps to burst through its body and grow upward. It’s pretty badass. “I printed it on a Makerbot in three pieces, curved them by hand and joined them together,” Chen explains .
