Smart Readers Are Too Distracted to Dig Smart Content | Raw File | Wired.com - Aurora Photo: Thomas Patterson Andrew DeVigal knows how to tell a story. For six years he was the Director of Multimedia at the New York Times, developing groundbreaking interactive news packages like the Emmy award-winning A Year At War. He understands that human elements drive narrative and best engage the reader, but against a backdrop of ceaseless online feeds and notifications it is increasingly difficult for journalists to hold readers’ attention. He believes smartly produced interactive news features which balance audio, video and stills can get audiences interested in long, deep stories if executed correctly. From a small paper in California to the Chicago Tribune, from Knight Ridder to the Poynter Institute, DeVigal has seen the news business evolve through digital growing pains. Wired: How are people consuming images in interactive features these days? Andrew DeVigal: Readers have grown more sophisticated in terms of usability and in their knowledge of the internet.

» The Turbo Entabulator - Aurora Have you ever been sitting there, quietly computing something and thinking to yourself, “If only this process were somehow billions of times slower, less reliable, and involved lots of physical labor”? If so, the Turbo Entabulator is the machine you’ve been looking for! While I get to spend my days working on one of the world’s fastest computers, I like to relax when I get home . . . slow things down a little. This machine is effectively an entirely-mechanical implementation of my FIBIAC machine. The Punch-Card Reader After my FIBIAC project whet my appetite for mechanical engineering, a picked up an 1895-copy of The Mechanism of Weaving. This project actually started out with the intent of building a tiny loom, and a built a simple 3-hook card reader as a proof-of-concept. Loom Fail =( I eventually gave up on the loom idea and decided I would have to settle for a mechanical computer instead. The result is a reasonably reliable, 3D-printable 10-hook punch card reader. Advertising and Advertisements: What are some of the funniest and cleverest advertisements Valuta locale Da Wikipedia, l'enciclopedia libera.
Google Launches Android Open Accessory Development Kit Based On Arduino - Aurora Google Launches Android Open Accessory Development Kit Based On Arduino Davide Gomba — May 10th, 2011 As seen in the streaming of Google IO 2011, physical computing and interactive enviroments are one of the main topics opening the conference. The Android Open Accessory Kit is going to allow Android related devices receive data from different sensors (just via USB, for now). The Android Open Accessory Development Kit (ADK) provides an implementation of an Android USB accessory that is based on the Arduino open source electronics prototyping platform, the accessory’s hardware design files, code that implements the accessory’s firmware, and the Android application that interacts with the accessory. The hardware design files and code are contained in the ADK package download. The board is based on the Arduino Mega2560 and Circuits@Home USB Host Shield designs, since it communicates to the phone in its “accessory” mode.
Dive into the Internet-of-Things world with the new Arduino GSM Shield - Aurora Dive into the Internet-of-Things world with the new Arduino GSM Shield Zoe Romano — March 11th, 2013 We are excited to announce that the new Arduino GSM Shield is ready to be shipped allowing Arduino boards (Uno, MEGA and Leonardo) to explore the wonders of adding a GPRS/GSM connection to interactive projects. We teamed up with Telefónica Digital to design a tool that is greatly simplifying the process of building Internet of Things applications based on the GSM mobile phone network and controlled through the internet anywhere there is mobile phone coverage. Every shield is equipped with a SIM card ready to be plugged in and used within a special worldwide data tariff especially created for the product by Telefónica but you can use any SIM from other providers.
