Operation Research and Decision
ISSN 2081-8858 printed version ISSN 2391-6060 online version Current issue:2018/vol. 28/No. 3 The quarterly “Operations Research and Decisions” is an open access, peer-reviewed journal which includes original scientific papers covering the full scope of operations research. Special emphasis is placed on quantitative methods and their application as a tool to solve economic, social and management problems. In particular, the articles published deal with the following subjects: • mathematical modeling, • forecasting, • econometric and statistical methods, • optimization and simulation, • management information systems and systems supporting decision making, • computer applications in optimization. The papers presented contain substantial theoretical discussions concerning the methodology of operational research and decisions, as well as descriptions of quantitative methods and applications of these techniques to solving practical problems of an economic and social nature.

The 2017 ALA Annual Conference and Exhibition in Chicago featured an impressive array of technology products and services for libraries. Organizations of all sizes were represented, ranging from corporate giants with their large booth installations to smaller companies with simpler tabletop displays. This mix reflects the current state of the library technology industry where large, consolidated, and diversified corporations dominate; midsized companies continue to create and support a narrower set of products and services; and small start-ups appear, bringing new energy and innovation. I probably spend more time in the exhibit hall than most conference attendees—you may have seen me browsing the aisles or rushing to my next appointment. The meetings I have with company executives and product experts inform much of my research and writing for months to come as a chronicler of the library technology industry. Lahden ammattikorkeakoulussa testattiin Ebsco Discovery Serviceä vuoden 2017 keväästä syksyyn. Testausta tehtiin osana kansallisen järjestelmäkilpailutuksen markkinaselvitystä, mutta toki myös omia intressejä testaamiseen liittyi. Testausvaiheen aikana palvelusta löytyi paljon hyvää ja myös opetushenkilöstöltä saatu palaute oli positiivista. Ebsco Discovery Service (EDS) on omassa tuotesegmentissään johtava tuote maailmalla ja se on liitettävissä mitä erinäisimpiin variaatioihin kirjastojen järjestelmäsalkussa. Ebscon strategiana on ollut tehdä yhteistyötä muun muassa kirjastojärjestelmätoimittajien sekä avoimen lähdekoodin järjestelmien ja asiakasliittymien kehittäjien kanssa.
