The dark side of the internet

The dark side of the internet
Fourteen years ago, a pasty Irish teenager with a flair for inventions arrived at Edinburgh University to study artificial intelligence and computer science. For his thesis project, Ian Clarke created "a Distributed, Decentralised Information Storage and Retrieval System", or, as a less precise person might put it, a revolutionary new way for people to use the internet without detection. By downloading Clarke's software, which he intended to distribute for free, anyone could chat online, or read or set up a website, or share files, with almost complete anonymity. "It seemed so obvious that that was what the net was supposed to be about – freedom to communicate," Clarke says now. "But [back then] in the late 90s that simply wasn't the case. The internet could be monitored more quickly, more comprehensively, more cheaply than more old-fashioned communications systems like the mail." His tutors were not bowled over. Unfathomable and mysterious But sheer scale is not the only problem. Related:  hooks247

World-brand-building mistakes France’s entrepreneurs make On Tuesday I joined up with the Traveling Geeks (a band of journalists/bloggers/influentials who visit startups around the world, picture of them above in a Paris subway station) in Paris and we saw a ton of startups. Some of them, like Stribe, were very good. But overall they just didn’t measure up. In fact, they even got me to be rude to them, which caught everyone off guard. I’ve been thinking about why they got me so angry ever since, and that’s what this post is about. First, if you meet with journalists, influentials, and bloggers who are coming from outside your country I assume you want to build a world brand. So, since you were meeting with us and since we’ve spent precious resources getting there and had sizeable opportunity costs, I figure entrepreneurs should be better prepared. 1. Four CEOs told me their companies weren’t on Twitter and that they didn’t have enough time to join Twitter. 2. 2b. 3. 4. 4b. 5. 6. 7. 8.

The dark side of the web | Analysis | Features Posted on 9 Mar 2010 at 15:47 Google sees only a fraction of the content that appears on the internet. Stuart Andrews finds out what's lurking in the deep web When Google indexes so many billions of web pages that it doesn’t even bother listing the number any more, it’s hard to imagine that much lies beyond its far-reaching tentacles. Beneath, however, lies an online world that few know exists. At the same time, the underground web is the best hope for those who want to escape the bonds of totalitarian state censorship, and share their ideas or experiences with the outside world. Interested? Deep webs, the dark web and darknets The first thing to grasp is that, while the elements that make up this other web have aspects in common, we’re not talking about a single, unified entity. The deep web isn’t half as strange or sinister as it sounds. Make no mistake, the deep web is huge. Treasures of the deep

How To Access THE HIDDEN WIKI (Deep web, secret Internet) (Some of this was copied from BB.com, I'm just bringing it to TBN) For those who don't know, the deep web represents a gargantuan part of the internet which is not accessible through regular searches via google or other search engines. Searching on the Internet today can be compared to dragging a net across the surface of the ocean. Here are some facts on The Deep Web: · Public information on the deep Web is currently 400 to 550 times larger than the commonly defined World Wide Web. · The deep Web contains 7,500 terabytes of information compared to 19 terabytes of information in the surface Web. · The deep Web contains nearly 550 billion individual documents compared to the 1 billion of the surface Web. · More than 200,000 deep Web sites presently exist. · Sixty of the largest deep-Web sites collectively contain about 750 terabytes of information — sufficient by themselves to exceed the size of the surface Web forty times. They got folks who literally can go toe to toe with Anon on there.

Best Trading Books | 5 Books That Will Transform Your Trading Email I often get asked which books I would recommend for trading. If I had to make a list, I would not have to think hard as to which ones would be at the top of my list. The books listed below are what I consider to be some of the books that really helped me in my trading and it will help you as well. They are not listed in order of importance, they are all important in their own way. Some are suitable for beginner traders and some for advanced or experienced traders.1. This is the book that inspired me to take trading very seriously. John Carter lucidly explains the psychological and tactical challenges that face a trader. It is not necessary for traders to employ every strategy documented in this book. What I really love about this book is Carter’s passion for trading. This book is not for the beginner. There is also a chapter on trading platforms. 2. These two books are a gem whether you are a beginner or an advanced trader. 3. 4. 5. Conclusion

The cool and not-so-cool of LeWeb This week I traveled to Paris with a consortium of fellow bloggers, the Traveling Geeks. We’ve been meeting with tech companies and French entrepreneurs all week. The tour ended with attendance at LeWeb, a two day tech conference produced by tech entrepreneur and Seesmic founder, Loic Le Meur. Cool – Accordions, Accordions, Accordions – There are plenty of street performers in Paris. Not-so-cool – The first day, the conference wasn’t about real-time web – The theme of LeWeb was heavily advertised as being about real-time web. Cool – On the second day, finally the real-time web – If you were interested in the real-time web you could have completely skipped the first day of LeWeb and just come on the second day. Cool/Not-so-cool – Moderators not agreeing with the topic – Andrew Keen, Author of Cult of the Amateur, led the panel entitled “Content vs. Cool – Double-sided name badges – One of the most irritating conference annoyances is name badge flip. Cool?

What is Dark Internet, How to Access Onion Domains and Configure Hosting for the Dark Web | Roger Davies What if I said there was Internet beyond what you can normally ’see’? Like dark matter, or the memory of a half-remembered dream, it lies just outside of perception, hidden beneath the sea of information. It is estimated that the Dark Web is several orders of magnitude larger than the surface of the Web. Just what is it? And how can you access it? Tor .onion domains There are many different techniques in use, but Tor’s onion router network is probably the easiest one to get started with. With Tor installed, you can access .onion domains such as the Hidden Wiki (which tells you a little about this realm), setup hosting with freedom hosting, create a blog at blog.masked or visit the Tor directory to see what other services are available. Hosting Pages on the Tor Network There are no laws here and you are free to publish anything and everything and nobody will even be able to identify you, much less stop you. I2P2 Network and .i2p Domains See the great tutorial below for how to set this up:

Les « digital natives » la génération multi-écrans | N'ayez pas Une des conférences du récent Webcom qui a eu le plus de succès était celle de Marc Prensky, inventeur dès 2001 du terme « Digital native ». De quoi parle-t-on? Wikipédia donne cette définition:« A digital native is a person who has grown up with digital technology such as computers, the Internet, mobile phones and MP3».

Wooji Juice: Hokusai: Support If you've run across a problem, please, drop us a line and we'll try to sort it out for you! Read on for some tips and additional info about Hokusai. The built-in help Quite a few people email us to ask questions that are already answered in the help that's built in to Hokusai. Importing, exporting & iTunes Probably the single most common thing people ask us about is how to get audio in and out of Hokusai. On their website, they explain how to find File Sharing in iTunes. Another way is to use Dropbox. AudioCopy/AudioPaste Support Sonoma AudioCopy/AudioPaste (which allows you to copy audio in one app, and paste it into another) is available in Hokusai as part of either the Tools Pack, or the Complete Pro Pack. The reason the built-in copy/paste tools don't use AudioCopy/AudioPaste all the time, is because that would require Hokusai to convert the selected audio from Hokusai's high-quality internal format, to an AudioCopy-compatible format.
