Notes on metamodernism Too Long in the Sun - Richard Rives - Christmas - Easter - Sunday Rest - Sabbath Slavery Still Exists - Lisa Kristine Photographs of human trafficking and enslavement around the world Lisa Kristine It was 130 degrees when I was first introduced to the brick kilns of Nepal. In these severe temperatures, men, women, and children -- whole families, in fact -- were surrounded by a dense cloud of dust while mechanically stacking bricks on their heads, carrying them, 18 at a time, from the scorching kilns to trucks hundreds of yards away. These are slaves. Deadened by monotony and exhaustion, they worked without speaking, repeating the same task 16 hours a day. Around the world human traffickers trick many people into slavery by false promises of good jobs or good education, only to find themselves forced to work without pay, under the threat of violence. For the last 28 years I have documented people in more than 100 countries on six continents. Oddly, I'd been to most of the locations where I started photographing slavery many times before. These are not images of "problems."

Uncle Thor's Lessons, Anecdotes and Humor The television clip of women brawling in a shopping mall on Thanksgiving Day is a commentary of this year’s winter holiday season. More than a few retailers opened their doors on Thanksgiving Day to get a few dollars more. Goggle-eyed shoppers hurried to get the early bargains, sacrificing the sanctity of the day in hopes of scoring a big discount. Already, the shopping malls and department stores are mobbed. Their parking lots are impassable as hordes of holiday shoppers descend like a pack of lemmings. Whatever happened to a time when Thanksgiving was strictly a family holiday? Who decided it was a good time to get out to the store and shop? And for what? It’s not just these holidays, either. The other day, my wife gave her opinion on greeting cards. There are cards for every occasion, all lined up in special racks with their color-coordinated envelopes. Valentine’s Day was a minor thing. They got Halloween, too. It certainly looks that way. Whose idea was this? Your money.

Lorem Ipsum - All the facts - Lipsum generator Ciudadanos del Mundo: Religión / Pseudociencia Postmodernism is a philosophical movement born after World War II, brought about by a disillusionment with the objectivist stance on reality boosted by the Enlightenment. To be honest, human knowledge was never truly 'enlightened' during the time we know of as "The Enlightenment" -humanity had to wait until the 19th Century for those ideals to actually take hold of society and governments. This truly was the age of Rationalism and Science. This age also taught us a sad reality: despite all this sophistication, we could still act as Barbarians on our own land. After two World Wars, people sought a new way of thinking. Even back then it must have been obvious -things were changing. This kind of societal quicksand is vital to all paradigm shifts. It is a humble position, they say: certainty, however reached at, is arrogant, intolerant and Fascistic. It may sound a bit harsh -intolerant, even- to accuse them of dullness. But why all the fuss anyway?
