Fashion Freaks | ditt provrum på nätet Dark Arts 17inShare Jump To Close We’re in a weird time for the way the future looks; somehow House of Cards can slyly introduce a floating text-message interface to their present-day political drama without so much as blinking, but most of our iconic near- and far-future worlds run on tracks laid down well before the ’90s. And it’s not just the recycling of every franchise from Star Trek to RoboCop: Avatar’s and Prometheus’ huge budgets couldn’t hide their indebtedness to the grandiose sci-fi storyboards of the ’70s. It’s an odd misalignment, considering that cyberpunk outran these operatic, alien worlds more than three decades ago. Save for a few exceptions — Neill Blomkamp’s biotech-heavy District 9, the straight-up horrifying Black Mirror — technophilic dystopias kind of fell off around the time of the last Matrix. Moore’s law is partially at fault — anyone who watched that video of Boston Dynamics’ WildCat robot knows what it feels like to realize the present is also the future.

LA CHEMISE EN GRANDE MESURE Millennials and Sex: A New Take on Dating, Marriage and Monogamy By the end of their dinner at a small Italian restaurant in New York’s West Village, Leah is getting antsy to part ways with her boyfriend Ryan, so that she can go meet up with her boyfriend Jim. It’s not that she means to be rude, it’s just that Jim has been traveling for work, so it’s been a while since she’s seen him. Ryan gets this. As her “primary partner” and the man with whom she lives, he is the recipient of most of Leah’s attention, sexual and otherwise, but he understands her need to seek companionship from other quarters roughly one night a week. "There was a side of me that was ecstatic – the teenage boy in me that wants to fuck everything I see," reveals Ryan, a millennial in an open relationship. When Leah and Ryan met at a wedding four years ago, they didn’t expect to develop this type of arrangement. Certainly, open heterosexual relationships are nothing new. Getty Images It’s worth noting that their arrangement was ultimately Leah’s idea. “Should I not wear a skirt?”
A Short History of 'Hack' A psychologist wants to tell us how to “hack the happiness molecule.” The Web site Lifehacker offers tips on “how to install a laundry chute,” “make a DIY rapid-fire mouse button,” and “how to stop giving a f*ck what people think.” Online marketers desperately want to “growth hack.” The venture capitalist Paul Graham constantly talks about how tech entrepreneurs must have “hacker eyes”; his startup incubator, Y Combinator, runs an online news aggregator called Hacker News. A technology company recently recalled “a disastrous hack,” while in recent months Target, Neiman Marcus, Richard Engel, and the University of Maryland have all been “hacked.” Clearly, “hack” is the word of the moment; its technological connotations have proliferated in both scope and presence. It was at M.I.T. that “hack” first came to mean fussing with machines. … the popularization of the term was a disaster. To give an indication of what Levy means, here are the first three uses of the word in the Times in 1990:
