The Two Pillowcase Shopping Bag - A Tutorial

The Two Pillowcase Shopping Bag - A Tutorial
Got a linen closet full of pillowcases? If you can spare two pillowcases, here is a tutorial for a free reusable shopping bag: One pillowcase will form the outside, and the other will be the lining. Lay both pillowcases flat and cut out the pattern below. Measurements below are for a fairly small bag- feel free to add as much length as your pillowcases allow, or adapt the pattern once you've made your first tester bag. You will have two outside pieces (blue) and two lining pieces (taupe). If you want a pocket, sew one to the good side of a lining piece now. Lay one outer (blue) piece on top of one lining (taupe) with right sides together. Turn right side out and topstitch the same place - up one side of the curve and down the other. With right sides together, lay the front piece over the back piece. Here's how to square the corners of the bag: from the inside, take the bottom corner of bag and pinch sideways. Confused? And this is a square corner from the outside.

Travel Accessories: Plenty of Pockets Tote When you're on the road, doesn't it always seems to be the ordinary, everyday things you are suddenly in desperate need of: gum, nail clippers, your headphones? I get a little panicky, certain I've left behind the most obvious items... as if perhaps I'm on an arctic expedition and won't see civilization for weeks. But the opportunity for replenishment doesn't matter; I want my stuff close at hand. That's the theory behind our handsome travel tote: plenty o' pockets to stash all your stuff. There are four big outside pockets that wrap front and back plus a deep inside compartment (exactly deep enough for a magazine, I might add!)

Northern Lights Capelet I knit this Northern Lights Capelet in the spirit of the earliest knitters, to bring light and warmth into the darker, colder months. Wear this cropped little cape under or over your coat, a streamlined layer that blocks arctic air from necks and shoulders and looks very pretty doing it! Knit up in a soft palette of Purl Soho’s beautiful Flax Down, this Capelet is a blend of baby alpaca, extra fine merino and linen. The subtle shades of the Nordic-inspired colorwork glow like a February sunrise. A perfect cure for the winter blues! -Gina

FlatBox-LunchBox - Folds Out to a Placemat by Rita Floyd-Vester FlatBox-LunchBox is a washable, heat resistant food carrying container that converts into a placemat to provide a clean surface with each use. My name is Rita. I have been a teacher for 10 years and have 3 children as well. I noticed that when a child got sick at school, very soon a few more followed. I searched the Internet where I found that some studies blamed the spread of germs on the water fountains, while others blamed it on poor hygiene....but even with the "hand sanitizer craze" the spreading of germs was still evident.

Reversible bag pattern Reversible bag from top of straps to bottom of bag: 50 cm / 20 inchesheight: 28 cm / 11 incheswidth: 40 cm / 16 inches I don’t know because I used leftover fabric for my bag. You can print the pattern and place it on your fabric to make an approximation. It is only one piece of pattern. How to make 3D paper ball ornaments I love 3D paper things. Love. And when I saw a little picture of what appeared to be paper balls in a CB2 catalog, I thought, "I am going to make those."

Scrapppy Reusable Produce Bag Tutorial October is Scrapbusters Month over at and I decided to get into the spirit and use up some of my scraps. I ended up making lots of things, but I thought that this would be pretty useful for most as an alternative to the rolls of plastic produce bags in the grocery store. The measurements are very flexible, and I think that having bars of cotton fabric instead of total construction of mesh will help it hold up longer. Another bonus is that this is a project that it doesn't judge...if you stitch a seam crooked...it still functions! ****Edit****I clarified reinforcing the mesh in this video. It is a little rough holding the camera and recording, but I hope it helps!

Super Soft Merino Fluted Cowl Our Fluted Cowl combines two of our very favorite things: elegant drama and Super Soft Merino! If you haven't heard, Super Soft Merino is Purl Soho's new, very own yarn, and we couldn't be happier about it! A loosley spun single ply of 100% Peruvian merino, Super Soft Merino is beautiful, decadent and yes, super soft. DIY Sunprint emballage My go-to DIY seems to perpetually be a tote bag. Once you’ve got the basic technique down, you can churn one out in less than an hour. I’m always looking for an excuse to make one, and I get most excited when I can add a simple twist to make it into something totally new and different.

A Bow In gift wrap emergencies when you've got the present but need some wrapping, here's an idea for turning a magazine page into a bow. There may be better ways to stick this thing together, but I used what I had on hand: staples and adhesive glue dots. Double stick tape or brads should work, too. Cut a magazine page lengthwise into 9 strips, 3/4" wide.
