Home Microsoft’s First Cloud Server Hits Public Beta | AJAX & RIA Journal Microsoft Wednesday sent Exchange 2010 out into public beta. It’s its first server built from the ground up, according to Microsoft, to be deployed in the cloud as an online service as well as on-site. Microsoft expects to start selling the thing in the second half. It will be available as a cloud service from both Microsoft and third parties. Microsoft also conceives of it being available as a hybrid: a mix of both the cloud and on-site. What it will cost as an online service is still a mystery. Microsoft also said it expects Office 2010, SharePoint Server 2010, Visio 2010 and Project 2010 to go into technical preview in Q3, ahead of release to manufacturing sometime in the first half of next year. Office 2010, which was code named Office 14 and has now been officially christened, is supposed to include versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote that take on Google Apps and other web-based productivity interlopers. The beta Exchange has some new features.
jQuery Templates and Data Linking (and Microsoft contributing to jQuery) The jQuery library has a passionate community of developers, and it is now the most widely used JavaScript library on the web today. Two years ago I announced that Microsoft would begin offering product support for jQuery, and that we’d be including it in new versions of Visual Studio going forward. By default, when you create new ASP.NET Web Forms and ASP.NET MVC projects with VS 2010 you’ll find jQuery automatically added to your project. A few weeks ago during my second keynote at the MIX 2010 conference I announced that Microsoft would also begin contributing to the jQuery project. During the talk, John Resig -- the creator of the jQuery library and leader of the jQuery developer team – talked a little about our participation and discussed an early prototype of a new client templating API for jQuery. This can look bad, particularly on a large screen. When I first ditched tables for pure CSS layouts I tried to make the footer stay at the bottom but I just couldn't do it.
