Social Goes Mainstream: A Look Back at 2011 PwC Survey: Millennials at work 2011 Formspring Wants a Place Next to Twitter and Facebook Buttons Formspring has announced $11.5 million in new funding, confirming earlier reports that the popular questions and answers service had taken on significant new capital from lead investor Redpoint Ventures. The company has also revealed a big new way to grow its audience: a button, called "Respond," that publishers can use to ask questions on their website. As the name suggests, it lets visitors respond to a question posed by the publisher. The button itself resembles the Tweet, Facebook share and Digg buttons already pervasive on millions of sites across the web. Like typical Formspring responses, the answers can be broadcast back to social sites like Facebook and Twitter, with the key difference being that the links direct people to the publisher’s site instead of Formspring. With the new funding – which also included participation from Baseline Ventures and a number of individual investors – Formspring has now taken on $14 million in capital. Try the service below:

Us Intel Wikileaks Social Media for Retail Shopping has always been a highly social experience, so it’s little surprise that retailers all over the world are exploring how they can best harness social media, both online and on the high street. This is a topic I explored in the above presentation, which I gave at the Asia Pacific Retailers Convention in Singapore late last year. It explores 3 key questions: What exactly are social media? We begin by examining the rationale for using social media, with some high-level numbers that demonstrate the scale and pervasiveness of social media in Asia and around the world. The second part of the presentation contains some great examples of how retailers like Uniqlo and Tesco have used social media to help with different objectives, from raising brand awareness and driving sustained loyalty to delivering one-to-one customer service. We then take a quick look at some key trends that will shape the future of social media for retailers:

Job Standards Glossary Berkeley Job Builder - An online application for viewing job standards and creating pre-populated job description templates. The Berkeley Job Builder replaces the Job Mapping Tool (2006 and 2007) and the Job Family Matrices (2006 and 2007) that were formerly on the Career Compass website. - A period (typically 30 days) in which the campus community can make suggestions for changes and improvements to the content of draft job fields and job families. Custom Scope - Refines the differences between levels of jobs based on distinctions that are meaningful for a specific job family. It is customizable for an individual job description, unlike Generic Scope which is fixed and unalterable. Examples of criteria that differentiate custom scope might include: decision-making on department policy, complexity of computer issues resolved, impact of program on a significant part of the campus, or difficulty of problem solved. Performance of the responsibility is considered to be of major importance.

Co-creation part of Singapore's 'Gov-with-You' strategy Citizen Engagement By Adrienne Valdez | 14 February 2011 | Views: 5374 Singapore’s e-government strategy will shift from “Gov-to-You” to a “Gov-With-You”, which includes a roll out of more citizen engagement initiatives leveraging on social media in the next five years. Speaking at the recent Singapore GovCamp, MICA Minister Lui Tuck Yew said that the Government 2.0 movement was bringing citizens and governments closer together. “Gov 2.0 is a nebulous concept. It seems to mean different things to different people. Singapore continues to take advantage of new technologies to improve public administration and service delivery. “Technology is now providing us with new possibilities and platforms for such citizen engagements. “This growing popularity of social media cannot be ignored. The Minister also gave a peek at its future citizen engagement plans. Mr Muhd Hanafiah, Director of MICA’s Industry Division, told FutureGov Asia Pacific:

Social Media Strategy for Nonprofits and Businesses The Logos of Web 2.0 The Logos of Web 2.0 There is no official standard for what makes something “Web 2.0”, but there certainly are a few tell-tale signs. These new sites usually feature modern web technologies like Ajax and often have something to do with building online communities. But even more characteristic among these brands is their appearance. Web 2.0 sites nearly always feel open and friendly and often use small chunks of large type. You can see some of these striking commonalities in Ludwig Gatzke’s compilation of nearly 400 Web 2.0 logos. The Softies A clear trend in new identities is the use of soft, rounded sans serifs dominated by VAG Rounded (AKA Rundschrift), but also including Helvetica Rounded, Arial Rounded, Bryant, and FF Cocon. Oct. 2008 Update — New and underused fonts in this category: Foco, Tondo, FF Netto, Estilo Text, and FF Unit Rounded. The Futurists Some sites are reflecting the technological breakthroughs of Web 2.0 with a look that says “tomorrow’s techno”. The Classics

The Different Ways We Can Keep Up With Evolving Technologies Technologies evolve quicker than we can imagine. As soon as we think, we have mastered one web technology, a new better, expanded, and more flexible version or technology releases that switches the demand of the market to it, making you start learning the new technology as if you have never known it before. To many of us, including myself, it seems frustrating to have known one technology or version of technology very well to having to relearn most of it over a routinely based time frame. For example, many have mastered HTML and CSS and felt confident enough to expand out onto new hacks and workaround methods that they completely forgot about the new technology that has recently arisen: HTML5 and CSS3. As HTML5 and CSS3 hit the market, they felt behind as web designers and developers as everyone around them understands the new technology while they have no idea what it may be about, and what is so great about the new versions or updates.
