March 2012 Most of the time I count myself as unlucky, not because I don't have a great life, but because I just have an acute absence of winnings. I never win at lotto, or raffles, or even when I duck my hand into a jar of gummy bears and hope to find my fave color inside. But sometimes, sometimes, I strike it lucky and during the past holiday season it was one of those times. It was while reading through my Twitter stream that I saw one of my friends RT'ing a contest by a local catering company called Drew Cooks. Zoom ahead a couple months later and I was finally able to nail down the ever busy Drew Cooks on a date. Starter was this deliciously cute duck croquette with Okanagan cherry. Please excuse me if I don't recall all the ingredients exactly as I forgot to write the menu down. Another lamb dish, which was pretty yummy, but what really stole the show on this one for me was the French bean stew underneath. The main event! Roomie with the awesome Drew Cooks guys!

How to Make Your Own Beauty Products from Scratch | Diy on GOOD Let's keep things simple this week. When it comes to personal-care products, we are big believers in streamlining what you use—see "Eight Products You Think You Need But Don't" for a refresher—buying less in general, and getting creative. We have both always loved experimenting in our kitchens and our bathrooms, checking ingredients in products we love, isolating the main ones, and then trying them on their own. Sometimes it works: A favorite hair leave-in contained aloe, for example, so one day we tried aloe alone and found that, lo and behold, it worked just fine on its own. And sometimes it didn't. Simple body scrub Many body scrubs, even the ones that claim to be sugar- or salt-based, actually contain beads made out of polyethylene, which is environmentally deplorable (it all goes down the drain, remember)—to say nothing of the preservatives, fragrance, penetration enhancers, and sulfates that typically bulk up these products. Jess Loves Fred: April 2012 Thanks so much for all your entries in the myLeather.com.au bag giveaway! Reading through your responses to what the weirdest thing in your bag was gave me a good laugh...but at the same time found me giving my monitor some pretty strong crazy eye. You guys seem to enjoy carrying WEAPONS (nunchucks, a dagger, a BAG OF KITCHEN KNIVES?!), using your handbags as pantries (a tub of cheese, one year expired chips, lime slices, a single hard boiled egg), carrying LIVE ANIMALS (someone's brother's pet iguana [impressive], dogs, cats, a dog's hairbrush)...and the downright strange (a stool sample, a urine sample a large pink dildo, a nappy filled with pee, grandmother's dentures). It makes me happy and proud to know my readers are a bunch of dangerous, hungry, animal-loving weirdos. Dress: Thrifted..$4!!
