Top Ten: Apps for children with special educational needs
It’s becoming increasingly clear that iPads and iPhones have so much more to offer than the games and shopping apps that are, admit it, the hook for a lot of us. Technology is bringing about a revolution in teaching and learning with iPads very much front and centre, armed to the teeth with an ingenious, ever-expanding amount of apps. Increasingly, technology is being put to use in special needs education and there are plenty of fantastic apps out there for helping students overcome their learning disabilities, giving them the confidence to learn and express themselves at school and home. Though there are a vast amount of brilliant apps to choose from, I’ve compiled my top ten for use both at home and in the classroom. VAST-Autism 1 – Core: A great tool that provides therapy to children with autism and motor speech disorders such as apraxia. ArtikPix – Full: Flashcard and matching activities are the thrust of this engaging articulation app for children with speech sound delays. See.

The iPad can provide visual, audio and tactile learning; reaching many students’ learning styles. With every new operating system, the up-dates added have included various accessibility options. Is it the best tool out there? Concerns and thoughts: In the special education classroom, as a classroom tool, one of the concerns that I have is that the iPad is often used as an individual tool in isolation, not a tool for collaboration and integration. Parents are also often using the iPad as a reward and/or keep them busy and quiet tool. How to use an iPad in the classroom with a group? As with everything, we tend to go to extremes.

Density Tower - Magic with Science Start your column by pouring the honey into the cylinder. Now, you will pour each liquid SLOWLY into the container, one at a time. It is very important to pour the liquids slowly and into the center of the cylinder. Make sure that the liquids do not touch the sides of the cylinder while you are pouring. It’s okay if the liquids mix a little as you are pouring. The layers will always even themselves out because of the varying densities. The same amount of two different liquids will have different weights because they have different masses. To test this, you might want to set up a scale and measure each of the liquids that you poured into your column. Density is basically how much "stuff" is smashed into a particular area... or a comparison between an object's mass and volume. The same goes for the small objects that you dropped into your density column. In the materials, we had you grab a bunch of miscellaneous tiny objects. Why do you think these two phenomena happen?
