Living Earth Simulator will simulate the entire world Described as a “knowledge collider,” and now with a pledge of one billion euros from the European Union, the Living Earth Simulator is a new big data and supercomputing project that will attempt to uncover the underlying sociological and psychological laws that underpin human civilization. In the same way that CERN’s Large Hadron Collider smashes together protons to see what happens, the Living Earth Simulator (LES) will gather knowledge from a Planetary Nervous System (PNS — yes, really) to try to predict societal fluctuations such as political unrest, economic bubbles, disease epidemics, and so on. The scale of the LES, when it’s complete, will be huge.

gijs van vaerenbergh / Reading Between the Lines In this unique project by Pieterjan Gijs and Arnout Van Vaerenbergh, architecture meets art in a beautiful and gentle way. Made with 30 tons of steel and 2000 columns, and on a fundament of armed concrete this unconventional church provides the viewer with unique perspectives and views from each angel. Courtesy of Gijs Van Vaerenbergh Depending on the perspective of the viewer, the church can appear as a conventional solid mass or a can disappear and blend into the landscape almost entirely.

50 Great Examples of Data Visualization Wrapping your brain around data online can be challenging, especially when dealing with huge volumes of information. And trying to find related content can also be difficult, depending on what data you’re looking for. But data visualizations can make all of that much easier, allowing you to see the concepts that you’re learning about in a more interesting, and often more useful manner. Below are 50 of the best data visualizations and tools for creating your own visualizations out there, covering everything from Digg activity to network connectivity to what’s currently happening on Twitter. Music, Movies and Other Media

In this particular performance, I discussed several male players' decision to play female toons (avatars) and also got into a discussion with a female player about her belief that if you wear revealing clothing it's your fault that you get raped (hardcore slut-shaming).

Physics Simulations and Artwork Here is a 3D view of a hydrogren atom in the 4f state. The left image was made in C++ using a technique described by Krzysztof Marczak to make it volumetric like a cloud of smoke. The right image was made in Mathematica by adding 2D cross-sectional layers. The animations were made in POV-Ray using DF3 density files. The right animation shows what a "12o" orbital might look like. gource - software version control visualization Gource is a software version control visualization tool. See more of Gource in action on the Videos page. Introduction Software projects are displayed by Gource as an animated tree with the root directory of the project at its centre.

Visualizing Roundup I have been coming across many tools to visualize usage during my daily researching hours. So many, that I have decided to start making note of the ones I come across. From the span of about two weeks, I have been collecting as many as I could find. I will list each one along with a description. Enjoy! Life Mirrors Art Mirrors Life - Skyrail Social Network Visualisation On my travels last week I came across this seriously cool new social network visualisation system called Skyrails. What I find particularly exciting about it is that the output looks like something out of the pages of Masamune Shirow’s “Ghost in the Shell” flying through the virtual noosphere. Whilst the utility of such visualisations are still questionable it’s always good to see innovation in this area and makes my own attempts look tame in comparison! “Noosphere (aka metaconsciousness): Human communication and interaction may eventually advance to the stage where even conscious thought may be globalized and massively shared. This will lead to the rise of the so-called noosphere.”

Benjamin Ziggy Lee Stock Photos On the surface, this series is a documentary of adolescent youths in their rooms. Their gazes are averted, looking out the window and beyond. And in their respective “window frames”, an artificial landscape is constructed using found images online. Data visualization Data visualization or data visualisation is viewed by many disciplines as a modern equivalent of visual communication. It is not owned by any one field, but rather finds interpretation across many (e.g. it is viewed as a modern branch of descriptive statistics by some, but also as a grounded theory development tool by others). It involves the creation and study of the visual representation of data, meaning "information that has been abstracted in some schematic form, including attributes or variables for the units of information".[1] A primary goal of data visualization is to communicate information clearly and efficiently to users via the information graphics selected, such as tables and charts.

Visual Map Of The Internet And Websites' Connectedness This is actually a worthwhile little time waster. is a website that depicts websites as different sized circles based on the size of their audience, and their relatedness to one another based on their proximity on the map. It has a handy search feature too, so you don't have to go scrolling around to find the site you're looking for. Because otherwise it would be complete shit.

Diego Collado - Data Recovery One of the haunting aspects of digital technology refers to the unknown durability of the equipment used. What will happen to the memory accumulated in DVDs and hard drives? Analog film has a physical presence that enables its direct visualization but for an archive in graphic format it is necessary to be decoded. We can make backup copies, but the doubts regarding images of immaterial nature persist.
