In the Art Room - Drippy Monsters

I originally saw this project on Elementary Art Fun. Once I saw it there, I started seeing it all over the place! Maya Made and Scrumdilly-do also have fun versions on their blogs. I did this with my second grades and they had a blast! Once we went over the severe consequences of playing with the straws and paint, we settled down and had fun. I used watered- down tempera in analogous colors for each table.

smART Class Paint Bag Writing Learning to write letters and numbers can be frustrating for little hands! I like to offer lots of play activities that help build those fine motor skills in a relaxed, fun way. Toddlers and up will enjoy making shapes, swirls, and even letters on a plastic bag filled with paint. To make your own paint bag writing tablet, put some finger paint or tempera paint into a sturdy freezer zip-top plastic bag. Seal it well and smoosh the paint around the entire bag. (You could even add a strip of packing tape across the top if you are worried about your child opening the bag.) We like to tape ours down to the table so it doesn’t wiggle around too much. ctbaker in the acres: 14 Lovely Days: Day 2 Well, we've been living in the land of the crud all week and the last 2 days I've had all three home sick. Cabin fever is setting in! I tried really hard to keep the peace today. Any who... on to Day 2. My random act for the day originally involved making a special snack together, but I didn't think sharing the germs any further was a very good idea. Origami Monster Bookmarks! But when I got to the site from where it was originally pinned, I realized my Japanese was a little rusty. I tried to photograph step-by-step so you could follow along... Supplies: Card stock or construction paper in various colors Scissors Hole punch for embellishments Glue We started with a 6x6 square Fold into a triangle Fold the left corner to the center point Fold the right corner to the center point Open up to a triangle again and fold one flap of the center point to the bottom Re-fold the left corner towards the center point and tuck it into the "pocket" Cut a contrasting square slightly smaller than the 3x3 pocket

Monday, November 18, 2013 Blow Paint Turkeys 2nd and 3rd Grade My daughters have been really into blowing paint drips to create beautiful paintings lately. We started with construction paper to make the turkey and used watered down tempera for the drippy paint. Fifth grade is making drippy paint creatures with cool colors, I will post more later.
