Austral Ed - Professional Resource Books for the PYP October 2013 This is a short initial list of books which we hope will provide some useful professional resources for teachers of the Primary Years of the International Baccalaureate. We have tried to choose books which do not have a narrow focus but which are transdisciplinary in concept. We are gradually adding to the list and improving it as we have time to add to it and as we get more feedback from teachers and librarians. Titles recently included are marked • We have always been reluctant to recommend teacher reference materials as we are not teaching in a classroom and therefore cannot test or put into practice the strategies suggested in the books. Please Note All prices are in Australian dollars and include the 10% GST tax. If you would like to order any of the books on the list, send the orders to Austral Ed by email to austral@gleebooks.com.au Payment can be made with bank cheques in Australian dollars, by direct bank transfer or by Credit card. Reference Help Lemony Snicket and Lisa Brown’s Charming Illustrated Allegory about Curiosity, the Imagination, and the Subjectivity of Observation by Maria Popova What children’s imaginations reveal about our relationship with reality. Few children’s book writers today could compare in humor, sensitivity, and sheer creative irreverence to Lemony Snicket, the young-readers pen name of grown-up author Daniel Handler, under which he has penned such magnificent creative collaborations as 13 Words, illustrated by the great Maira Kalman, “Who Could That Be at This Hour?,” illustrated by celebrated cartoonist Seth, and The Dark, one of the best picture books of 2013, illustrated by Jon Klassen. It tells the story of a little girl, a little boy, and their little dog, who grow intensely fascinated with the mysterious Swinster Pharmacy of the neighboring town and begin pondering what it might sell. First, the small party journeys to the next town to investigate in person, surreptitiously observing the white-coated employees and even following one of them home one night, to his house right across the pharmacy. The PYP Library ERIC Resourcing Books - Resourcing the PYP, MYP, & DP International Shipping FREE A major "how to get the books" resource is Book Depository in the UK, which ships books free world-wide (see the Country List). Okay, not to all countries, but most. For example, Vietnam and Thailand are NOT on the list. But China, Singapore, etc. are. The beauty of Book Depository is that it's based in the UK and carries most US and many Australian titles. An oddity of Book Depository is that it ships every book individually (unless you order multiple copies of one title). Online Bookseller -- based in Singapore Open Trolley -- online Singapore-based bookseller, with more than 1 million discounted titles Lists of Recommended Titles LibraryThing catalogs WorldCat booklists Recommended Resources -- recommendations that have come out of the IB Librarian Continuum workshops in the Asia-Pacific region.
